The 267 horses which won stakes In America last year had 136 breeders, the leaders among whom were Idle Hour Farm Col. E. R. Bradley, ten; Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, ten; Walter M. Jeffords, nine; Greentree Stable Mrs. Payne Whitney, eight; Arthur Boyd Hancock, eight; Hal Price Headley, seven; Joseph E. Widener, seven; Coldstream Stud C. B. Shaffer, six; George D. Widener, five; Belair Stud William Woodward, five; Audley Farm B. B. Jones, four; Hon. Leslie Combs, four; Charles T. Fisher Dixiana, four; Foxcatcher Farms William du Pont, four, and Willis Sharpe Kilmer, four. Kentucky was the birthplace of 194 of those stakes winners, though their breeders are not all residents of Kentucky. Colonel Bradley, for instance, has his legal residence at Palm Beach. Florida: C. V. Whitney is a resident of New York. Walter M. Jeffords home isf at Glen Riddle, Pa., as is also that of Samuel D. Riddle. Mrs. Payne Whitney has a residence on Long Island, N. Widener resides at Erden-heim, Chestnut Hill, Pa. William Woodward lives In New York, has his mares foal in Kentucky and raises his horses, from weaning time, in Maryland. Charles T. Fisher resides at Detroit, Mich. Robert A. Fairbairn lives at Freehold, N. J. Marshall Field resides in New York. H. C. Hatch is a resident of Canada, but bred his three stakes winners in Kentucky.
