RHODEISLAND STATE STEWARD Appointment of James H. Dooley Completes Official Family for Meeting at Narragansett Park. PAWTUCKET, R. 1, April 3. With the announcement this afternoon by Francis J. Kiernan, chief of the Rhode Island division of horse racing, that James. H. Dooley, Providence businessman, has been re-appointed as state steward of Narragansett Park for the spring meeting which opens May 1, the personnel of the official racing staff was completed. With one major exception the staff of 1937 will be much the same as that of 1936. Tom Thorp,, nationally-known sport official and turf editor, will return as presiding steward, with C. B. Stickney and Howard Reynolds again as his associates. Walter Moriarlty, John Davis and Fred Grafton will again act as placing judges, with Moriarlty serving as clerk of the scales. G. R. "Buddy" Wingfield, one of racings outstanding starters, now serving at Tropical Park, succeeds the veteran Harry Mor-risscy, who will stay close to his beloved California this summer, with engagements to fulfill at Bay Meadows and Agua Caliente. Bryant Steele will return as paddock and patrol judge. Charles Quinn of New York succeeds for the job as patrol judge. Mort Shaw returns as pari-mutuels director, and Harry I. Day will operate the "Eye in the Sky," the highly efficient camera, which is exclusive in New England to Narragansett Park. Billy Owen, jockey room custodian, is already at the track perfecting arrangements for the comfort of the riders.
