ADD SAND TO TRACK TOP SOIL Provides Layer Almost Inch and a Half Thick to Footing at Keeneland Other Changes Made. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 31 Horsemen who have, inspected the Keeneland track since 760 tons of river sand were added to the top soil, are confident that when it becomes thoroughly mixed with the original clay loam a better cushion will result and the track will dry out more rapidly. The sand was spread several days ago, the 760 tons providing a layer approximately one and one-half inches deep over the entire course. The work was supervised by track superintendent Bishop. Naturally, it has slowed the strip, but after one or two hard rains- the track is expected to be faster than before the sand was added, though some horsemen doubt that such improvement will arrive in less than sixty days. Cecil Daly, one of starter William Hamiltons assistants, has arrived from Hot Springs and is busy directing the schooling of two-year-olds. A glass enclosed training stand, to be situated near the track entrance leading to the stable enclosure, is planned for horsemen. Work on the improvement may start in a day or two. It will be reserved for trainers while watching or timing their horses during training hours. As the new press stand will place occupants at a decided disadvantage, alterations may be made before the spring meeting opens. The original press quarters on the roof of the grandstand are to be occupied by the stewards beginning this spring. During Keenelands first meeting last fall the stewards quarters were atop the clubhouse. Work on a field stand for colored patrons started yesterday. Situated east of the grandstand, the new section will have a capacity of about 300. L. K. Rogers Nitten Nancy foaled a brown colt by Kai-Sang at the farm of Gay Drake near here. The youngster arrived last Monday.
