Fishbachs Midst, the favorite in the featured East Liverpool Purse Iiere this afternoon, scored by two and one-half lengths over Cross End; who, in turn, was another three lengths in front of Aunt Dinah at the end of the six furlongs. Buck Thornburg rode a nice race aboard the winning daughter of Star Beacon and as a team completed the six furlongs in 1:11. It was another beautiful day here in northern Ohio and a crowd of 5,775 was in the stands. Following the race Mayor Arnold Devon of East Liverpool presented a trophy to Fishbach. Van Lane, leading sportscaster of that community, also participated in the brief ceremony. Cross End, who was the longest-priced horse in the small field, was first to show in front and after the first quarter held an advantage of two lengths, with Midst in second position a length in front of Aunt Dinah. The running order of the top three horses did not change until the horses had gone past the furlong marker and were approaching the sixteenth pole. At that time, Cross End started to tire somewhat, while on the inside, and Midst iorged to the front with Thornburg scuffling, but not as yet going to the whip. With 70 yards left, Thornburg reached down and hit the mare once and she responded very nicely and-was increasing her margin with every stride as she approached the wire. Alex Bruscinos favored Proud Son scored by three parts of a length over Royal Charles in the sixth race and in so doing paid .00 as the first winning choice of the afternoon. Deeside was third, another three lengths back. Apprentice Louis Syfrig performed capably as Proud Sons pilot. Time for the mile and one-sixteenth was 1:47. Deeside set the early pace and was in front by two lengths midway up the backstretch, with Gay Purchase second, a head in front of Royal Charles, who was another two lengths hetter than the eventual winner. Racing around the far turn Syfrig made his move on Proud Son and he responded gamely and moved into second position in back of Royal Charles, who had moved through to gain a short lead between calls while on the stretch turn. Deeside was third, two lengths farther away. At the furlong pole Proud Son moved up on the outside of Royal Charles and was in front by a head. With about a sixteenth left the winner tried to lug in but young Syfrig did ah excellent job in keeping his mount from bothering Royal Charles and near the wire was beginning to draw away. The fifth race was the Jockeys Guild Purse, which saw 12 two-year-olds battle it out for six furlongs. Locust Wood Farms Valor Lass, ridden by Joe La Montagne, won by a half length over Gay Pole who, in turn, was two lengths ahead of Be-Gin. The winner paid 7.00 and was timed in 1:13. Saul Silberman, president of the Randall Park Jockey Club, presented the Guild with a check for ,000 following the race. F. M. Fadeleys Thomas Pepper, under a strong ride by Joe Servis, scored by two lengths over Diamond .Ned in the third race. Little Creek, one of the extreme outsiders, ran a strong race, winding up third, another head back at the end of the six furlongs.
