Chenerys Belluno, considered the top three-year-old sprinter on the New England circuit, heads a field of seven listed to vie at six furlongs in tomorrows featured Maplewood Purse. The event, styled exclusively for sophomores, was originally scheduled to be run for a purse of ,000, but racing secretary "Eb" Pons has elevated the value to ,000 in keeping with the Rockingham Park policy of giving more money commensurate with the success of the meeting which closes here on Saturday. Belluno will pick up 122 .pounds for the Maplewood and is conceding from eight up to 13 pounds to his rivals. W. L. Curies Mintaway, Sam Sidells Dark Destroyer, J. Passarellis Coherence, and Frank I. Wrights Elliot L. are in the dash with 114 pounds, two more than to be carried by Jake Lingles Valenciano. Green Acres Stock Farms Sherry L. is the lightweight of the field with 109 pounds. Belluno has not started since the opening week of the meeting when he finished a close second to Algasir in the Raceland Handicap. The Rosemont gelding was meeting older horses in that race and set a terrific pace only to succumb to the late challenge of the consistent Kimball speedster. Such local favorites as Larry Ellis and Grover B. finished in the wake of Belluno. In his last six outings, the Chenery sophomore has won four times and been second in the other three. The competition for Belluno in, the Maplewood appears to be evenly divided between his rivals. All have distinguished themselves in local sprints, a total of 21 victories have been registered by the opponents of Belluno this year, but they will have to he at their best tomorrow if they expect, to upset the favorite.
