CROWNLET Will carry Duval Headleys colors in the Mansfield Purse at the Randall Park course this afternoon. Augustus Entry of Euclid and Besiege Meets Nine in Mansfield Purse Today Former Scored in Longfellow Handicap at Monmouth Park; Kinsman, Mestizo Threats RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 20. The Mansfield Purse at six furlongs headlines tomorrows program, here at Randall Park. The race shapes "up as one of the most interesting of the meeting as Mrs. E. H. Augustus Euclid will make his initial start of the meeting. He will run as part of an entry with Besiege and those two will meet nine others for the major portion of the ,500 purse. Slated to face the strong Augustus unit are the Doug Davis-trained pair of Bless America and Elaine Ruth; Dorchester Farm. stables Kinsman; Smith and Steeles Mestiza, Duval Headleys Crownlet, John T. Kirbys Skin Junior, A. L. Millers Monda-val, Mrs. E. F. Simms Spunky and Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Jack Jr. Euclid was to have started here on August 5 but when torrential rains turned the track into a sea of mud trainer Jim Radney decided against starting his charge. Euclid last ran at Monmouth Park and won the 5,000 added Longfellow Handicap by two lengths while being ridden by Nick Shuk. That was the geldings only victory of the season in four starts, but his race leading up to the Longfellow was excellent. .He was second to Penocc, beaten a half length in a six-furlong test at Delaware Park. Scored in Buckeye Last Year Clevelanders best remember the gelded son of Fighting Fox for his sensational tally in last years Buckeye Handicap here at Randall Park when he hung it on such good ones as Seaward and Oil Capitol. Radney is quite naturally pointing Euclid for this years Buckeye and plans to run him in next weeks Randall Park Handicap as a final tightener. Shuk will not be on hand to ride the gelding tomorrow but present plans call for the riding staf to be aboard on Buckeye day. JMestiza won the Scarlet Carnation Handicap in her most recent effort here and will receive a good portion of the play- in tomorrows feature. She had a sparkling work this morning when she went a half mile in :47, the best trial of the work period. In the Scarlet Carnation she was close to the pace from the outset, saved ground on the turns after wresting command and then held sway over My Nell by two and three-quarter lengths while under intermittent pressure. Trainer Searcy has the Taj Akbar runner in the best shape of her career and she may beat Euclid for her East Liverpool, Ohio owners. Mondaval, who will be ridden by Buck Thornburg, will be seeking his third straight victory and his fifth of the year. He has been improving steadily and in his last outing defeated The Veep by two lengths, moving up with a rush racing to the far turn. His time for the six furlongs was 1:11. Before that race The Veep had gained quite a reputation and many local horsemen were of the belief that he was the best sprinter on the grounds. Owner Miller is quite high on his Valdina Orphan gelding and plans running him in the Ran- dall Park Handicap and then back into the rich Buckeye. Of the others entered, Headleys Crown-let, Mrs. Mucklers Jack Jr. and Paul You-kilis Elaine Ruth would appear to have the best chances of a winning race. Jack Jr. has raced well here lately and until recently had run the best six furlongs of the meeting, 1:11. Crownlet tired in her most recent race, which was contested at about one mile over the turf. She is a winner at the meeting as well as at Keeneland and the Fair Grounds this year and if she is in a running mood could be tough. Elaine Ruth looked good in her last race over the track. Kinsman will be making his first start since being purchased by the Price Brothers and is always considered a possibility. However, the geldings best races have always been at a longer distance and his chances in here are not too bright. Skin Junior brings an impressive record with him from Charles Town but has never run in this sort of company. The Kirby colorbearer has won five times this season in races ranging from four and one-half furlongs to seven furlongs.
