: Dueling in Length Rockingham Score Responds to Stout Pressure Of Chris Rogers and Shows Way Home to Brobmmaket By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent ROCKINGHAM PARK, Salem, N. H., Aug. 20. Tilford Wilsons Dueling won her second straight purse of the meeting as she responded courageously to the stout pressure applied by the veteran Chris Rogers to draw through a small opening on the inside and took a length decision in the Captain C. Wilson Purse. Second in the field of 10 sophomores was Broom Stables Broommaker, a nose back came B. A. Darios Nancy Clare, who had a neck advantage over the stoutly-closing Cuanden, from the barn of Felix M. Poncelet. A large gathering of members of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company were among the 10,024 in attendance for todays racing, held under ideal weather conditions. Many of the races were named in honor of the guests, with the feature named for the commandant of the organization. Nancy Clare Opens Up Lead As was expected, Nancy Clare had the early speed in the featured six-furlong dash and opened a three-length margin over Broommaker and Dander before traveling a quarter mile in :22. The speedy filly continued her dizzy pace and as she reached the half mile in :45 Dander had enough by this time. As she dropped back, Wise Doge and Dueling made their moves along the inside. The ultimate winner had the luck to gain racing room as Nancy Clare came out slightly and Rogers made good use of the Blue Swords miss late speed to finish out the distance in 1:10. Favored in the wagering, Dueling paid .80 and earned ,400 as the lions share of the ,000 prize.
