Aqueducts Fall Stakes Will Not Lack Quality 0,000 Beldame Has Attracted Forty-Two Top Fillies and Mares SARATOGA, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., Aug. 20. A check of nominations for Aqueducts fall stakes reveals that the 18-day Meeting, starting August 31, will not lack in quality, especially in the filly and mare division. The.program, headed by the classic Bel-de, attracted all of the leading stables, including some of those which campaigned in the Chicago area this summer. The Beldame, .with its 0,000 added value, has long been one of the outstanding filly and mare races of the nation and is a highly sought after prize by horsemen because of its prestige value in the stud. The race has been so popular that it has Te-quired a split three times in recent years 1946, 1947 and 1952. The race attracted 42 nominees for this years renewal, headed by Mrs. Ben FT Whitakers Grecian Queen, leading contender for three-year-old filly honors. Calumet Farm named Real Delight, one of the winners of last years split, but a late report from Washington Park indicates that she has run her last race. Belle Nell will carry the stables colors in the event. Included among the eligibles are Belair Studs Sab-ette, Darby Dan Farms Atalanta, Clarence Hartwicks Sickles Image, Warner Jones LilJal, Mrs. Ada Rices Cerise Reine, E. P. Taylors Canadiana and Meyer - Kaplans Sunshine Nell. As a prep for the mile -and-one-furlong Beldame, Aqueduct has shortened the distance of the 5,000 added Vagrancy to seven furlongs, attracting 49 nominees, practically all of them Beldame eligibles. The handicap division has two races up for decision, the Aqueduct and Edgemere, both worth 5,000. The Aqueduct at a mile and one-sixteenth, scheduled for opening day, brought out 33 while the Edgemere attracted 41. Charfran Stables Crafty Admiral, one of the big horses of 1952, is engaged for the Edgemere. Others eligible for the event are Greentrees One Hitter, Hampton Stables Alerted, and Calumet Farms Hill Gail and Mark-Ye-Well. Hasty House Farms Oil Capitol and Ruhe also have been named. The 5,000 added Discovery Handicap is the lone event for three -year-olds and 34 which spent most of their career chasing Native Dancer have been named. The Yan-derbilt star was riot among the nominees. Sprinters will have their chance in the 0,000 added Bay Shore at seven furlongs and 27 speedsters are listed. The two-year-old events are the 0,000 added Astarita for fillies, and the 0,000 added Babylon and 0,000 added Cowdin, for both sexes. Hasty House Farms Hasty Road, winner of the Arlington Futurity, was named for the Cowdin.
