; " j i Evening Out Has One Spinaway Foe EVENING OUT Faces an easy task as she seeks her fourth straight stakes win in as many starts. Spa Stake Made Betless by Solons Mrs. George D. Wideners Unbeaten Filly Vies With Alines Pet for 1,050 Prize By BOB HOBWOOD Staff Correspondent SARATOGA, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., Aug. 20. Mrs. George D. Wideners Evening Out, a juvenile filly who has won three stakes in her only three starts, has been voted by the owners and trainers of her rivals and the officials of the Saratoga Association into the same category with Greentree Stables Tom Fool. The handicap champions two local appearance in the Wilson Mile and Whitney Stakes were termed "exhibitions" by the state racing commission, made betless affairs by .the association and only one owner was bold enough to send a rival to the post with the son of Menow. The same situations prevails for tomorrows sixty-second running of the Spinaway Stakes, which will also be a betless contest, with eight other races on the program on which there will be pari-mutuel wagering. Only Col. E. P. Bixers Alines Pet was named to oppose Evening Out in this 0,000 added six furlongs for juvenile fillies. The coughing has put considerably more than half of the juveniles stabled here on the sidelines, while Evening Outs demonstrated superiority frightened away most of the others of her age and sex. Usually Attracts Good-Sized Fields There was considerable precedent for the small fields in the Wilson and Whitney, which have not filled well, in several seasons, but the Spinaway has not attracted less than six starters since 1927 and had that small a field only once, when Breckinridge Longs Masca beat five rivals, including the heavily favored Level Best and Tangled in 1940. As fine a filly as was Top Flight, she had seven, rivals in this stake. It had been assumed that Maine Chance Farms Incidentally, who worked well yesterday morning, would take another shot at Evening Out, while Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Open Sesame, winner of her last three, had also been considered a probable for the Spinaway, but both fell by the wayside. Alines Pet is a chestnut daughter of Jet Pilot Dark Dazzler, by Reigh Count, who won a maiden race at Monmouth Park on July 22 for, her last start, narrowly beating something named Hope in 1:07 for five and a half furlongs. In her only other start, Alines, Pet finished second to Sorority Miss in a maiden race at Jamaica on opening day of the New York season. Hedley Wood-house will ride Sol Rutchicks charge, who would appear to be a complimentary entry, though she gets in with 111 pounds, receiving a dozen from Evening Out. Evening Out has impressed many observers as being superior to any of the juvenile colts who have been seen in the East thus far this season, and won last-weeks Schuylerville in impressive style. The handsome daughter of Shut Out Evening Belle, by Eight Thirty merely galloped to Riant, Incidentally and three others in 1:05, best time of the meeting for five and a half furlongs. Riant, by the way, was not made eligible to the Spinaway. Ovie Scurlock will ride Evening Out, who is expected to earn 1,050 of the gross jurse of 1,950. Second money is ,000 while third and fourth money revert to the association. The Spinaway will be the sixth race and is preceded by the ,000 Lovely Night Hurdle Handicap at "about" two miles and followed by the ,500 Burnt Hills Purse for three-year-olds at a mile and a furlong. Alison Sterns War Rhodes looms a short-priced favorite over seven rivals .in the Lovely Night, despite his top impost of 154 pounds
