FIRST BALLOT broke alertly, took back when unable to outrun the leader, then rushed along the inside entering the stretch for a brief challenge, and faltered. NANTUCKET came through along the inside in the stretch but was not good enough. BLACK WIDOW lacked early speed. SIR COUNTRY showed nothing. VIENNA DANCE was used up forcing the pace. MISS MELISS, in hand while forcing the pace, moved into command under pressure in the drive, attempted to drift, but was kept straight under stout handling and just lasted over FRIENDLY SANDS. The latter, taken back off the pace and placed under stout restraint for five furlongs, moved readily when set down, came outside on the final turn, started to go to the inside, changed course and came outside and just missed catching the leader. The riders of FRIENDLY SANDS and SHES GOT IT claimed a foul against the winner and, after th estewards examined the photo of the running of the face, MISS MELISS was disqualfied and placed fourth. LAVION, steadied within striking distance of the pace, lacked a late rally. SHES GOT IT assumed command at once, established the pace until the final furlong and .weakened. MISS C SUE had no mishap. WOHNEDA passed tiring horses. JEANS JAY showed nothing. HfHBILLANE flattened out. PROHIBIT was outrun.
