Blenomar Blenomar Victorious Victorious at at Washington; Washington; Only Only Four Four Named Named for for Saratoga Saratoga Cup Cup R. B. ODOM Saddled Charfran Stables Blenomar for his winning effort in the Evergreen Park Purse at Washington. Fourth Successful Favorite on Card Adams Off Ox Runner-Up to Charfran Stable Colt With Tahitiair Third to Hit Wire By J. J. MURPHY WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., Aug. 27. Blenomar, a brown four-year-old, after having made a half dozen unsuccessful tries for a purse in this district this summer, finally made good in the seventh attempt when he won the Evergreen Park Purse, sixth race on todays bill. Favored in the wagering and with jockey Don Scur-lock in the saddle, Blenomar took over from the pacemaking Air Plight in the stretch and had little trouble scoring, although hustled along to the end. Blenomar was the favorite and paid .00. Adams Off Ox, the second choice, came from the rear to nose out Tahitian for second place. A crowd of 12,390 turned out on this very hot day to view the running of an ordinary bill and the racing was for the most part formful, favorites winning four of the first six races. The distance of the Evergreen Park was one mile, and Air Flight, whose efforts have for the most part been confined to sprints, went to the fore early, with Blenomar close up. Jockey Eldon Nelson did a good job of guiding Air Flight while he was making the pace, and when Blenomar moved on the stretch turn, Nelsons charge had something left. It took Scurlocks whip to get the public choice in the van, but once there he began to lengthen in the last eighth. Adams Off Ox Gaining at End Meanwhile, Adams Off Ox, a non-winner this year and a horse who was dropping down in company, had been racing in the rear. After rounding the stretch turn he showed power, and although going in the middle of the track through the final furlong, was gaining at the end. In contrast to Adams Off Ox, Tahitian saved some space on the stretch turn. A field of seven took part, but the three money-horses drew the most backing from the gathering. The first twin Daily Double pay-offs of the meeting, aside from consolation Doubles, where one horse was scratched from the second race, came about today when Miss Pigtail and Swivel Hips, a pair of two-year-old fillies, finished all even in the second race. The combination from Big Eyed, the first winner, to Miss Pigtail, paid 5.20, and that from Big Eyed to Swivel Hips paid 0.20. Big Eyed, clever winner of the opener, was ridden by John Heckmann, with the favored Little Burg being unplaced. He was the favorite, and for a time it appeared as if he would not make it, but jockey Al Popara kept pumping, and got him to the front near the end to best Living Doll, with In Form, the . early pacemaker, being third. Mother Morris, winner of the fourth race, was the favorite and paid 0.20. Paul Bailey was in the irons and he had the mare up in time to defeat the grey veteran, Marabout, who made the pace. Roman Warbler, a two-year-old filly, made the second start of her career in the fifth and was a very easy winner. She came within two-fifth seconds of the five and a half furlong track record in running the distance in 1:04 to win by four lengths. Roman Warbler, owned by Mrs. J. A. Good- win and ridden by Heckmann for that boys second success of the day, had an easy time of it, leading most of the way. Peggy D. was just as easily second.
