Royal Charger Will Plane To New York on Monday Outstanding Irish Sire to Stand At Spendthrift Farm in Lexington NEW YORK!, N. Y.f Aug. 27. Royal Charger, outstanding Irish sire purchased last March by Louis B. Mayer for a sum reported to be in excess of 00,000, will arrive in New York by air Monday afternoon, it was announced today. The 11-year-old stallion is due in from Shannon by Trans World Airlines at 3 p.m. CDT at Idlewild Airport, where he will be readied for his trip to Lexington, Ky to stand at Leslie Combs II.s Spendthrift Farm for an American syndicate. Royal Charger was sold by the Irish National Stud to the American group at a time when Ireland was in need of U. S. dollars. He is one of the most successful sires of speed horses in Britain and had been sought by United States interests for some time. A son of Nearco, Royal Chargers reputation has been enhanced by the successes of three of his progeny since the time of his purchase. Royal Serenade recently won the 00,000 Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park, while Sea Charger triumphed in the Irish 2,000 Guineas last May.
