Illinois Notes FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., Aug. 27. A little social life was added here Wednesday night with Ray Bennigsen, the Fairmount Park organizations secretary-treasurer, throwing a small informal party following the running of the nights races in the private lounge atop the clubhouse. Mrs. Eileen McAuliffe, wife of the steward, made Bennigsen the present of a ukelele, a special one with 10 strings, and the host proceeded to entertain a la Godfrey. Jockey Les Wickel went to the front in the rider standings here last night with a triple on the eight-race card. Wickel advanced to a dozen winners to break a three-way tie with Frank Keene and Earl Van Hook. The latter rode one winner, moving up to 10 victories, while Keene remained at nine, closely followed by Anthony Iudica, Mel Duhon and Charles Roberts, who have eight each. Dan Howell tallied with his first try since recently arriving from Washington Park when he saddled the juvenile Old Dan for a victory under the colors of his owner-brother Charlie Howell, in Wednesday nights1 third race. The good-looking colt is from the first crop reaching the races by Old School. Trainer William Stewart registered Royal Challa on his list this morning to run under the nartnership of T. and W. Stewart. The seven-year-old horse had been turned out at the Stewart farm in Playfield, 111., since the conclusion of the Fairmount Park spring meeting.
