Special Trainer Awards In Ohio President Series Point System Will Be Used in Distance Tests at ThistleDown THISTLEDOWN, Warrensville, Ohio, Aug. 27. In answer to inquiries that followed the recent announcement oh the distance handicaps, to be known as the Ohio Presidents Series, scheduled for ThistleDown, racing secretary Fred Burton has added the following data to that previously published. Trainers awards will total ,000 with ,000 going to the conditioner of the horse who compiles the best overall record in the series. These points increase with the lengthening of the distance and in the final event, at two miles and one-sixteenth, the winner will get 33 points and second horse 17. Eligibility in the Presidents series is limited to horses which have started for a claiming price of ,000 or less in 1953. Entries close three days before the running of each race but horses may be entered in any or all of the series. The first of the series at ThistleDown will be the U. S. Grant Handicap at one mile and one-eighth on Wednesday, September 16. The balance of the series will be staged at intervals of approximately 10 days.
