QUEEN HOPEFUL was off well and was close up on the outside in the early part, then was taken in slightly during the far turn when some of the pacemakers raced wide and, moving up nearing the last turn, set out after CHORUS KHAL in the stretch to wear her down and, getting to the front an eighth out, slowly increased her advantage thereafter. CHORUS KHAL had fine early speed and drew clear nearing the stretch turn, then saved ground in the run home and went in courageous fashion to the end, but was not god enough. CLEAR DAWN, racing on the inside, was in rather tight quarters around the far turn and dropped back, then came again and, while not threatening the first two, turned in a creditable effort. COSENTINA lacked early speed, but came steadily through the stretch and was racing well at the end. GREEK LADY was slow to start and was badly outrun to the stretch, then came strongly and was racing well at the end. JENJAY moved up in the stretch and went fairly well thereafter. BEANIR was on the outside of four horses rounding the far turn and raced quite wide, then continued rather wide to the stretch turn and weakened thereafter. GOLLY and FLEECE tired badly. INDIAN HILL headed ROMAN BATH nearing the far turn, then showed fine speed to draw out and wjn as his rider pleased. LE MONDE was never too far away and came steadily through the stretch but failed to threaten the winner. ROMAN BATH had the most speed out of the gate, was easily headed by INDIAN HILL when the latter was ready and tired in the stretch. His rider claimed a foul against INDIAN HILL, stating the latter had interfered with his mount j around the far turn. The claim was not allowed. UNBRIDLED, while never a serious contender, went fairly well to the end. JET ACE tired. The others were outpaced. Scratched 97595 Recline, 113. NINTH RACE 1 1-8 MILES turf course. ALTRUISTIC saved ground while being outrun early and slipping through on the inside after entering the stretch, got to the front and held LANCER narrowly in the final drive. LANCER, a good contender throughout, appeared to be jostled slightly by ALTRUISTIC, an eighth out, then held on gamely in the final drive and just missed. The stewards called an inquiry but upon examination of the photographs the original placing was allowed to stand. SON CHUCK dropped too far out of it early and, although cutting to the rail at midstretch and finishing fast, was unable to menace the first two. MOFLAME finished fairly well on the outside. IRISH FLARE failed to respond when put to the test. VICTORIA CROSS stopped badly after going seven furlongs. TENTH RACE SUBSTITUTE DECLARED OFF. Attendance, 15,295; Total Mutuel Pool, ,262,838.
