Six Middle Distance Runners in Highland Galway Boy Engages Lady Indian, Lady Lancaster in FairmountTest By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAJRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., May 24. — Six middle distance performers will provide the field for the headliner on the Tuesday night card of nine races when they compete at a mile and one-sixteenth in the ,500 Highland Purse. This event brings out a competitive field of the routers and from the way the race is fashioned it appears as if the main contention lies between Galway Boy, Lady Indian and Lancaster Lady. Galway Boy, who races in the interest of J. and S. Hanover, has made two appearances here thus far and although he finished fourth in both starts he was in with much higher class competition. His first outing here was at six furlongs and in which he showed early foot then gave way; his last race was in the East St. Louis Handicap was not very impressive, but he was pitched against the best here. His workouts show him ready for a real test in the Highland. A newcomer to the races here at the Collinsville course is Lady Indian, .from the stable of the partners C. N. Salerno and R. Decker. This six-year-old mare is rated highly at the route distances and from morning trials appears to be ready for a sterling effort in this type of race. V. Tabbytitts Lancaster Lady has been racing in short races here thus far but from the way she has been closing it looks as though she will go on. Making up the field for the Highland will be Gail R., Buster Buttons and another newcomer here this spring, Faneur from the stable of Mrs. W. R. Fisher and Mrs. L. Fruchtman. Fiesta Way carried the Mrs. T. M. Pruett silks to victory in a spectacular finish in the Midwest Handicap here Saturday night to win by three-quarters of a length before a large crowd of 8,800 fans. Jockey L. Grandsart had a little trouble getting his mount going in the early stages of the six-furlong dash and, after he did start moving, had a lot of trouble keeping the four-year-old filly on the race track rounding the stretch turn where she swung very wide, almost reaching the outside fence, but under a hard drive and being much the best, the game filly responded to urging and got •up in the final few yards *to outgame Fly Two Day. J. J. Helf richs four-year-old filly, Fly Two Day, took the lead soon after the start .and after racing the game Mary H. into defeat on the far turn, drew out but, giving all she had left, she was still not able to hold the determined winner in the closing drive, and was justable to hold the place from Lucky Lable. Mary H., from the W. C. Weant stable, the favorite, was a weakening fifth after having forced the early pace. Fiesta Way which had finished second in her only other two starts of the meeting returned her backers a .20 payoff and ran the six furlongs in the fast time of 1:10% which is just three fifths off the track record.
