Reigh Count Purse Tests Routers at Ak-Sar-Ben Kind Reception/ Royal Ghost Vie In Feature Over Off Course By J. R. BATTY Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., May 24.— An "off" track will prevail here when racing is resumed on Tuesday, following* a dark day Monday, because of heavy rains yesterday in this area but this prospect did not keep the horsemen from flocking to the entry booths. Full fields of a dozen starters are in a majority on Tuesdays Ladies Day Card. The featured sixth race is one of the few exceptions. Although only seven horses are listed the sport figures to be interesting in this one mile and 70-yard test. Titled the "Reigh Count," which adheres to the policy of the local management of honoring with its feature races, famous horses of yesteryear, the main attraction offers a purse of ,575 and brings together three-year-old and older horses under allowance conditions. Named overnight to match strides are W. R. Warners Kind Reception, H. Wells Calloway K., E. K. Careys Royal Ghost, A. D. Woof ters Peach Blossom C. L. Crays Dalcar, Fred Wyses Andromeda and Dr. Tulip, who is owned in partnership by W. D. Rorick and L. O. Lane. Three starters among the field have seen action at the current session and all of the remaining four have appeared under silks this season before arriving on the local scene. Thursdays opening day card last week brought out Kind Reception and Royal Ghost, who competed in the Inaugural Handicap at six furlongs, and Andromeda was seen in a dash of six furlongs in the race which preceded the feature. Kind Reception finished fourth in the Inaugural, beaten about three lengths by the winner, Roman Secret. Better suited when going a route of ground, Kind Reception turned in a creditable performance, coming from ninth position to capture the fourth portion of the purse. In his previous race, at Fonner Park on May 8, Kind Reception chalked up a popular victory with the fans touring one and .a sixteenth miles. Royal Ghost, who ended up seventh to Roman Secret, should also favor the longer distance presented in tomorrows engagement. This light gray four-year-old gelded son of Royal Cheer — Rissa was recently shipped here from Sportsmans Park where he made one unsuccessful try competing at seven furlongs. Earlier this season, while at Gulfstream Park in Florida, Royal Ghost was second on two occasions performing under a claiming tag of. ,000 and over a distance of ground. - Although Andromeda was second all the. way to Big Ox in her sprint effort on Thursday, she faces a stern task opposing the brand of company she meets tomorrow. Dr. Tulip spent the winter months on the Phoenix, Ariz., circuit .and competed in some of the better handicap races over a route of ground while there. I., has taken over the early lead in the jockey race here. Mower, who is under contract to Houston, Texas, rancher Fred Wyse, added points to his riding score with a win and a second on Ak-Sar-Bens Saturday card. He got to the winners circle in the second "race on Gold Tree Stables Pontalba, and was beaten by a nose in the featured sixth, the Gallant Fox Purse, on Wyses Bamma. Under Ak-Sar-Bens point-award system Mower leads the jockey pack with 18 points, earned on two wins and three seconds. Ak-Sar-Ben awards six points for a win, two for a second and one for a third. A handsome gold trophy cup will be awarded the leading jockey of the Omaha meeting on closing day, July 5 th. David May, Lamar, Colorado owner, has the leading money-winning stable after the first three days of the Ak-Sar-Ben meeting. May has collected ,925 in purse winnings off the efforts of his six-year-old gelding, Big Ox. The big bay, by Ox Blood out of Miss Courtesy, won a ,050 claiming race on opening day, and went to the. winners circle again Saturday with victory in a ,575 claimer. Charles Eteenspergen of Monrovia, Calif., has earned ,275 to put his stable in second place, and Jesse Byrd of Las Vegas is third with ,130. Fred Wyse, the Houston rancher-breeder, has ,075 for fourth place honors; Ed Luther, Wisner, Nebr., is fifth with ,320, and tied for sixth among the leading stables are P. J. Cameron of Pleasanton, Calif., and L. H. Hopper of St. Joseph, Missouri.
