Dr. Fred Rankin, Famed Lexington Surgeon, Dies LEXINGTON, Ky., May 24. — Funeral services for Dr. Fred Wharton Rankin, president of the American College of Surgeons, were held today in Lexington. The internationally famed surgeon was one of the founders of the Keeneland Association and had served as an officer of that organization. Dr. Rankin died Saturday after a long illness. He was 67. He was past president also of both the American Medical Association and the American Surgical Association. Pallbearers named for the services were Lucas B. Combs, Louis Lee Haggin TX, Hal Price Headley, Dr. Dan. C. Elkin, Dr. Robert S. Dinsmore, Dr. B. N. Carter, Dr. E. H. Ray, Dr. Lawrence E. Hurt, and Dr. Thornton Scott.
