ThistleDown Boasts Fine Horse Colony Assign Stalls to 1,500; Ace Destroyer Heads 10 In String of S. C. Dykes i CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 24.— With the arrival on the grounds of Ace Destroyer, one of Native Dancers better 1953 pursuers, general manager Lou Pondfields promise of a finer class of thoroughbreds for the ThistleDown meeting which opens pJune 1 seemed more than justified. As the brightest star in a stable of 11 ktop flight campaigners owned by Calif or-nian S. C. Dykes, the four-year-old strawberry roan will point for the 5,000 added ThistleDown Cup on July 17. In the meantime, trainer Ray Brannick is hopeful that lus pride and joy will be able to match his efforts of last summer when he ran fourth ...to Native Dancer in the 00,000 added Arlington classic besting Jamie K., among others. Although unplaced, he was good - enough to run in both the Kentucky Derby and the 00,000 American Derby. l Never before in Cleveland racing history has a racing secretary had such a fine field of horses from which to choose in making rup his daily schedules. Already 1,500 thoroughbreds have been assigned stable space while a similar number have been turned down because they failed to meet the requirements. If they hadnt earned ,,500 by May 10, they wont be at ThistleDown in June. Additional Parking Facilities I While officials were carefully combing »the requests to find suitable equestrian tenants, Cleveland Raceways president kHenry Gottfried was overseeing a rearrangement program which will provide im-Iproved parking facilities for an additional *i00 cars. The jockey headquarters from the ►old ThistleDown plant has been remodeled and moved to the clubhouse turn where it will serve as headquarters for both the general manager and racing secretary. At [the same time, the old equipment barn has been moved from its Emory Road site to ■the north side of the oval and will be rebuilt as part of the new Musicarnival : operation. m These two relocations will increase the ["close by" parking areas by 30 per cent. As a further convenience to racing enthusiasts, the entrance has been redesigned to permit automobiles to be driven up the front ramp for unloading of passengers before being parked by special attendants.
