Leading Rider at ThistleDown Meeting to Receive Trophy CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 26.— The Cleveland News will present a jockey trophy to the leading race rider at the conclusion of the coming ThistleDown meeting. The suburban Cleveland course which lies just east of the city, will open a 42-day session next Tuesday and a number of new jockeys are expected in from other areas. The Cleveland News trophy has been presented at Cranwood since 1952 and at ThistleDown since the revival of racing at that point in 1953. Jimmy Baird won one of the earlier awards at Cranwood and shared another with the veteran Willie Pool. Last spring Eddie Plesa scored at Cranwood with twice as many victories as his nearest rival. Then in the fall of 1953, the fate of the trophy was undecided until the final race of the ThistleDown meeting. The session ended with Plesa and Louis
