This holiday usually marks the peak of Lincoln Fields meetings. Its traditional feature, the 5,000 Peabody Memorial Stakes for three-year-olds, has a list of 20 eligibles. Latest to be added was the bay colt, Notable, owned by Dr. Robert C. Austin, of Dayton, Ohio, whose subscription was delayed in transit to the racing secretarys office. Notable raced during the winter at the New Orleans Fair Grounds, where he won an event -at a mile and one-sixteenth on March 12. He is by the imported Australian horse, Shannon II., out of So Proudly, by Bull Dog. As the field for the nine-furlong Peabody begins to shape up, it appears that Allie Reuben will rely on Sea O Erin, another son of Shannon II., to represent Hasty House Farm in the holiday fixture,-Hasty Road being reported as remaining in the East until after the Belmont Stakes on June 12, although he was nominated for the Peabody also. Meanwhile, Walmac Farms Hasseyampa is the favorite for the Peabody. Prairie State Victor in ]953 Sea O Erin, who last year won the Prairie State Stakes in which Hasty Road finished third, is a winner this year of two races, including the Fountain of Youth Handicap at Gulfstream Park on March 10. Later, he won an allowance race at Keene-land. Following that victory he was unplaced in the Blue Grass Stakes and Kentucky Derby. Thirteen of the 26 La Salle nominees ran in the two divisions of the Crete Handicap on opening day won by Pomace and Sir Mango, respectively, and many of them may try the La Salle at the same distance, six furlongs. There has been some reasoning on the part of some theorizers that the two Crete winners might "cut each others throats" next Saturday, thus increasing the prospects of others. Those who ran in one or the. other of the Crete divisions and who are among the prospects for the La Salle, include Smack-over, Gala Fete, Oh Leo, Paytu, Sun David, Look Out Jeep, Torch of War, Dry Run, Good Call, Tuosix, and Bugledrums. In addition to those, another La Salle candidate, Mimi Mine, has won at this meeting, defeating two other eligibies, Ruhe and Gushing Oil. Mrs. H. J. Damms good filly, Arab Actress, is regarded as a certain starter for the La Salle. m, i ;c.v tr .... -- and?imm K. D. KEPLER— Saddled Endon for his winning effort in the Peabody Prep.
