I., May 26. — Llangollen Farms Porterhouse, the Easts leading candidate for the three-year-old championship, breezed a useful mile in 1:43% this morning as part of his preparation for the Peter Pan Handicap at a mile and a furlong on June 5. The hard-hitting son of Endeavour n. broke several lengths behind Open Country, but had no trouble catching that one and drew away without urging., Open Country, who was under some pressure in the final stages, was clocked in 1 : 44%. The fractions were : 51 and 1 ;18 Vs. Porterhouse created an immense impression in his local sophomore debut when he turned back seasoned older sprinters in a swift six furlongs 10 days ago. The colts major engagement is the Belmont Stakes, in which he is expected to meet the Preak-ness winner, Hasty Road* Brandywine Stables Rain, a candidate for Saturdays Coaching Club American Oaks at a mile and three furlongs, turned in a, handy mile in 1:41% and appeared to be under wraps, ""he daughter of Polynesian finished second to Cherokee Rose at a mile and a sixteenth last out and is on the upgrade. King Ranchs Riverina, who dead-heated with Happy Mood in the Acorn Stakes here, skipped six furlongs in 1:13% for the CCA Oaks, accompanied by the maiden Mazinga for the first half mile, which was clocked in -Am.
