Clearbrook Tallies Over Prince Rival Jockey L. Rivera Completes Consecutive Triple Astride Eichler Performer at Ascot By RONALD KRANCEu Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 26. — Jockey Louis Rivera completed a consecutive triple by riding Leo Eichlers Clearbrook to victory by two and one-quarter lengths over Prince Rival in the sixth event. Southern Cookn was third, another three lengths back at the end of the six and one-half furlongs which was run in 1:19% over the fast track. The winning daughter of Beautiful n. paid .20. Rivera has now ridden 14 winners at the meeting. He scored previously aboard Jo Ted in the fourth race and then followed that with Dear Moose in the fifth contest. The latter ran the fastest six and one-half furlongs of the meeting in 1:19%. A mid-week crowd of nearly 4,000 attended the races and perfect weather pre vailed. Once again many of the public choices failed with only one scoring through the feature. -iL Southern Cookn Sets Early Pace Southern Cookn was responsible for the early pace in the sixth event and as the horses raced up the backstretch was in front by a half length with Clearbrook second and Papaya in third position. Prince Rival was well off the pace and was just recovering from having to be taken up when caught in close quarters racing into the first turn. Clearbrook moved to the fore as the field raced into the far turn,. His margin was two lengths over Prince r Rival who had moved along gamely while between horses and at that stage of the race loomed dangerously. Southern Cookn had weakened and had dropped back into third position while along the rail. Through the stretch with Rivera riding an excellent race, Clearbrook held sway and Prince Rival was unable to make up any ground. In fact, he losta quarter of a length in the final drive. Southern Cookn had enough left and collected third money for owner G. Bills, Jr. The second race provided the most thrilling finish of the season here as only five lengths separated the entire ten-horse field at the finish line. The winner was the favored Whatanurse, ridden by Tommy Fortune. Whatanurse was a length in front of Our Freedom at the end of the six and one-half furlongs. Then the fun began. Town Sheik was third, another nose back and a like margin in. front of Trade With. Probation was still another nostril back in fifth position. Whatanurse was winning for the first time this year and paid .60 being timed in 1:21%. The .first race was also a thriller with Lets Buzz getting home first by a neck in front of the heavily favored Valley Doctor. Another nose back in third spot came Pads Boy. Lets Buzz was ridden by H. Ploof and paid 4.80. The Daily Double paid 0.80. Thursdays sport here at Ascot Park will co-feature the seventh event at four and one-half furlongs and the eighth, at seven furlongs. The seventh race has attracted a field of eight headed by Mrs. A. C. Robertsons improved Brown Eyed Liz. She is slated to meet Inspite, Won. the Fight, Blue Continued on Page Forty-Four Clea rb rook Ta 1 1 ies Over Prince Rival Jockey L. Main contention in this race will probably come from Bustacle and Inspite who have both had excellent races thus far at-the meeting. The eighth contest is headed by Smiling Eyes who will have to pack 123 pounds in quest of another victory. Others, named to start are Pepper Corn, Sun Bike, Beloved Miss, Stargard, Little Father, Another Nip, Fiddling Mac, and Pepper Lou. Maedas Condition Fair A late hospital report lists jockey Tommy Maedas condition as "fair." The boy suffered multiple fractures of the chest and head injuries. He was injured during the running of the eighth race on Tuesday while astride Boling Boy who fell heavily over Efcee. Boling Bay had to bedestroyed. Gail Parker also involved in the spill was out of action this afternoon, but was expected to be riding again by Friday. Parker has clinched leading riding honors at this meeting, but it now appears almost impossible for him to pass Howard Craigs all-time record for victories at this course. Parker is nine races off Craigs pace as of now. The Lily Ann Stables Blacktype, winner of the victory plate, and the early choice for the Gold Cup to be run here on Saturday worked a mile and one-quarter this morning in 2:07%. Blacktype showed no tendency to pull himself up at any time during the work. Wilmer C. Ensor arrived from Pimlico and made plans to run Hocotia in the Gold Cup. If the gets into the race apprentice Walter Blum will come on from the Free State to do the riding. KING MAPLE — The Queens Plate hopeful worked a good mile in 1:41 yesterday at the Woodbine Park course.
