► . COUNT CAIN— One of the topweights in the Eastport Purse at Belmont Park. Extra Points Gives The Mast and Five Other Jumpers Weight in Corinthian Nelles Racer Seeks Sixth Straight Win at Belmont While I m posted With 162 BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 26. — Knowledgeable, steeplechase enthusiasts, who have estimated that Col. Lafayette Henry Nelles Extra Points is 10 pounds better than anything else in the jumping brigade this spring, will have an opportunity to have this estimate tested at Belmont Park tomorrow. The son of Grand Slam, who has won five races this year, including the International and Appleton Chases, is asked to carry 162 pounds in the forty-ninth running of the Corinthian Steeplechase Handicap at about two miles, conceding six pounds to Mrs. J. R. H. Tnourons The Mast and 10 or more to five other experienced rivals. The Mast was voted last years steeplechase champion, but has been beaten twice by Extra Points this year. In an overnight event on opening day here The Mast tried to give Mrs. C. E. Adams revelation 18 pounds and failed by seven lengths. The pair then met at level weights in the International and this time Extra Points beat his rival a mere 18 lengths. Extra Points then appeared in the Appleton, an allowance event, in which he got four pounds from Mrs. Vernon G. Cardys Sun Shower, and beat that one by three lengths, but also with great ease and immense authority. Sun Shower gets in with 152 pounds tomorrow. Brookmeade Stables His Boots, who finished a distant third in the International, followed by Sun Shower and fourth behind Extra Points, The Mast and Sundowner, but in front of Sun Shower on opening day, gets in here with 144 pounds. The veteran, who has twice won the Grand National Chase here, may appreciate a firmer track tomorrow. The Corinthian field is completed by Bayard Tuckex-man, Jr.s Blandystone, 136 pounds; Morris Dixons Palaja and Lowry Watkins Tourist List, 130 each. Blandystone has not been seen locally this year, but is a capable and familiar chaser, though not quite first-class. Palaja and Tourist List finished far behind Extra Points and Sun Shower in the Appleton and had no apparent excuse. Frank "Dooley" Adams, whose mother trains Extra Points, will ride the favorite, while Bob MacDonald will be back on The Mast, who may show considerable improvement as he appeared high in flesh in his first two starts this spring. Paddy Smith-wick will be on Sun Shower, Elwood Carter will pilot His Boots and Flint Schulhofer is to guide Blandystone. No riders have been named for Palaja and Tourist List. The Corinthian will be run. as. the fifth event, followed by the Eastport Purse at a mile and a sixteenth on the main course. This event has drawn a field of seven, most of whom have been appearing in stakes or overnight features with varying success. Belair Studs Golden Gloves, Joe W. Browns Matagorda and J. W. Nizleks Count Cain are the topweights here with 122 pounds each. Golden Gloves, who is the likely choice, won an overnight event at Garden State then finished second to Capeador in the Thomas A. Healey Memo-iria.Jat-Saturday, while he was second to Continued on Page Forty-Three i Extra Points Gives Weight To The Mast, Five Others Continued from Page Six Straight Face in the Dixie Handicap before that. A repetition of any of those races would be good enough to win here. Matagorda, who won last years Louisiana Derby, finished third to Armageddon and Brown Booter last week, while Count Cain was scratched from a similar race not long ago then start: J twice against Native Dancer. Nizlek is evidently not exactly picking his spots, but if he doesnt scratch from this suitable engagement, the Count Fleet four-year-old may be very dangerous. Brookmeade Stables Sky Ship, winner of the Swift Stakes here two years ago, but making his first start of the season, has 118 to carry. He often races well when fresh. The field is completed by Expletive, Gold Gin and Beau Gar. Arthur Godfreys Lord Willin, a 8,000 son of Case Ace— Dutch Cut, is slated to make his racing debut in the fourth race, in which the fast-working colt will oppose 13 juvenile colts and geldings at four and a half furlongs on the Widener straightaway. The big colt has been training impressively for several weeks, his most recent move being three furlongs in :34 on the straight course yesterday morning.
