Limit Field Slated to Go In Maplewood Purse „ Red Rudolph Likely Choice Oyer Harry-Lou and U. S. Nayy Tonight By C. A. LENDEMAN Staff Correspondent PAIRMOTJNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., May 26. — The Maplewood Purse, an allowance affair for three-year-olds and older horses, will feature Thursday nights card of eight races. This event draws a full field of middle-class sprinters to vie over the six-furlong course for a ,700 purse. Despite the fact that the field will "have 12 starters, there are only nine interests, as there will be three couplings. Blue Opal and Desefolks will-race as the Pohlman, Ellis and Vogelsang entry; Hopeful Sam, Martin and We Dood It as the Mr: and Mrs. H. P. Triplett entry, and AboTere and Bat Girl will race as the M. Whitebook entry. Red Rudolph, from the stable of Al Tennis and who has two seconds to his credit this meeting out of three starts, looms as the probable choice. Both of his recent efforts were in the better class allowance races and, with his fast early foot, he figures to be ready to annex his first set of brackets at this meeting. His last outing was against a top field of short distance horses in the Greenville Purse and only in the final stages did he give way to Issybee in a race that was run. in 1:12. A. Schroeders eight-year-old, Harry-Lou, who didnt fare so well in his last out here, rates a top chance if the racing strip is fast. His first out here this season showed that he had early speed and, with two races now back of him, he should be at top form for this test. TJ. S. Navy, who races for the Mrs. Sam Orr stable, has only had one race here this meeting and was distanced last time at six furlongs, but, in with a field of this type, she may fare much better. Her recent workouts show her to have her early foot back. Others who go to make up the field in the Maplewood are Irish Witt, Fair Appraisal, Wise Maid, Deep Situation, Heart Trust and All Tilly. W. Tabbytites Lady Lancaster found a track to her liking when she was able to hold on long enough to defeat the favorite in winning the Highland Purse— the mile and a sixteenth feature on the Tuesday night card of nine races. The five-year-old mare, ridden by Jockey L. Grandsart, was rated perfectly back of the early pace to the far turn then favoring the going moved up to race Buster Buttons, the pacemaker, into defeat. Grandsart had to keep driving in the last sixteenth to stall off the closing drive of Galway Boy, the favorite. Galway Boy, with jockey J. brosco up, lacked the speed in the early half to keep up but after reaching the last quarter moved up with a terrific burst of speed, was sent to the inside in the last sixteenth to finish strongly but not enough to overtake the winner. Buster Buttons, the early ! pacemaker, lasted to save the show money. The race was run in 1:47% over a track I J labeled slow from recent rains. There were 6,000 fans on hand to witness the running of the fifteenth night of racing.- Lancaster Lady paid her backers .60 to win. Two newcomers to the racing game are the partners Joseph M. Nester and Earl Millard of Belleville, 111. The partners have started out with the one-horse stable of Court Hay, which they recently purchased from W, W. Morrow, who has shipped his stable to Chicago. The new stable -will be trained by tfrank Nunn. The official staff here at Fairmount Park is now complete with the arrival of Robert P. McAuliffe, who holds down the position of associate steward. During the short time between the departure of John T. Morrisey, who left here to begin his duties at Detroit early last week, racing secretary J. J. Klucina filled in in the stewards stands McAuliffe has held down the job of steward here for several years — one of which was as state steward. Jockey Melvin Duhon will resume riding the latter part of the week. Duhon suffered slight injuries a couple of weeks ago and just started galloping again this week. H. Malarrus today purchased the two-year-old, After Two, from the Verde Stock Farm. Terms of the sale were held private. Trainer M. C. Simone will do the training of the two-year-old.
