Allowance Event Heads Fonner Park Card Today Wilsons Open Scabbard Likely Choice at Mile, Seventy Yards By DEAN WILLIAMS Staff Correspondent FONNER PARK, Grand Island. Nebr., I May 11. — The top offering on the mid- j week card prepared by racing secretary Ralph Stubbs will be an allowance race for horses that have started for a claiming price of ,500 or less and will be contested at one mile and seventy yards. This event will bring together C. E. Wilsons Open Scabbard. C. E. Bryant and D. Gallaghers T-Town Express. Ed Plumbs Kin Bar, W. R. Warrens Kind Reception. Mrs. Eva Yates Irish Villon and Frank Turners Bill J. The homebred mare. Open Scabbard, will probably go to post favorite in the feature on Thursdays program, off her recent good effort to W. R. Warrens Smokey Point. , The daughter of Open Door was beaten three lengths by the Warren star as he ran a mile in 1:4135 to establish a new track record. She was second in this effort and appeared to have reached top form. Nebraska Gray has been improving in each of his starts at this track and seems to be the best of the others. The Robert Awmiller gelding ran fourth in last Saturdays 400 Club Handicap. He was beaten a number of lengths, but the winner. Copper Islam, was increasing his margin readily through the stretch, making it appear as if he had tired. The gray son of Kings Pawn has not raced up to his 1954 form, but should be nearly ready for a top effort.
