Boulmetis After Third Straight Camden Stake Hopes to Add Jersey Score to Valley Forge, Delaware Valley GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 11. — Jockey Sam Boulmetis will be shooting for his third consecutive stakes victory at Garden State Park on Saturday. The Baltimore-born booter has been engaged to pilot Mrs. Jan Burkes Dedicate in the week-end renewal of the 0,000 added Jersey Stakes. This pair teamed up to win the Delaware Valley Stakes here on the last week-end, and a week before the popular rider was aboard William G. Helis, Jr. s Helioscope when the son of Heliopolis established a track mark in accounting for the one mile and seventy yard Valley Forge Handicap. Winning top events is no new experience for Boulmetis. In 1954, he was the nations fifth ranking rider in stakes and feature event competition. Boulmetis won 13 major fixtures with a purse value of 42,500. Records for last year show Sam was the fourth leading rider in the country with 237 victories. In addition, he was the fifth rated money-winning jockey of the nation, his mounts earning a total of ,276,689. Boulmetis last Saturday pulled the rare riding stunt of accounting for half the card. His four victories included the big one with Dedicate in the Delaware Valley Stakes. This calibre of riding also comes under the category of old business with the Maryland saddlesmith. Last year, at Garden State Park he won with 4 of 6 mounts on three occasions. He repeated the performance once at Hialeah, and at Atlantic City took care of 5 for 6. Boulmetis has always fared well on the New Jersey circuit. In 1954, he was the top rider during the spring session at Garden State Park, and second best during the fall meeting. He ranked second in the Atlantic City standings and third at Monmouth Park. During the 150 racing days in New Jersey in 1954, Boulmetis rode 150 winners, for an average of one per day. His Florida campaign this year was impeded by injury, but in 1954 his 32 victories at Hialeah gave him top honors over such noted competitors as Ted Atkinson. Hedley Woodhouse, Steve Brooks and Kenneth Church. At Tropical Park he rode 19 winners and did not compete at Gulfstream Park. At present, in addition to tending to chores at his nearby Marl ton farm, he is engaged in a rip roaring riding battle at Garden State Park with his old foe, Willie I Hartac:.
