► Balmoral "Open House7 on Sunday Public Invited to Inspect Washington Park Facilities; Run Two Exhibition Races HOMEWOOD, 111., May 11— President Russell Reineman of the Balmoral Jockey Club today invited the public to "Open House Sunday afternoon at Washington Park where the Balmoral meeting will open on Monday. Chicago area fans, who may visit the Homewood plant from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, will witness an hour-long program from 3 to 4 p.m. in front of the stands, depicting how trainers, jockeys, grooms and officials prepare for a big race. Sportscaster Jack Drees will narrate the entire show. Two exhibition races will be held, one on the grass course and the other on the main track. Fans will get a close-up view of simulated stable activity, saddling, jockey instructions, post-parade, and then the actual running of the races. Other activities directly in front of the stands will include schooling of two-year-olds in the starting gate, with starter Roy Dickerson and his crew; an actual workout on the track by a horse preparing for one of Balmorals events; description and explanation of handling of horses before and after races; display and explanation of owners silks and jockey riding-styles, and a description of how a race is declared "official" on the totalisator board. Mare and Foal to Parade One of the interesting items on the program will be the parading of a mare and her recently born thoroughbred foal, a youngster who is destined to take the race track in 1957 as a two-year-old. Fans also will have another preview of the modernized clubhouse and grandstand facilities, including the grandstand built last year to increase seating capacity to over 30,000. There will be no reserved seats or box seats in the escalator-served extension even on Memorial Day, May 30. On display will be the mutuel facilities, flooring, lighting and refreshment stands introduced in 1954 in both the grandstand and the clubhouse. Washington Parks supervised parking areas, with space for over 15.000 cars, will be available for patrons during the meeting. Also among the guests Sunday will be members of the press, television and radio •as well as prominent local dignitaries.
