Danforth Admits to 31 Derbys CHURCHILL DOWNS, Lousiville, Ky., May 11 — Word was received here today from Ed Danforth that he has been set back "eight years. The popular sports editor of the Atlanta Journal blames Freddie Russell, of the Nashville Banner, for the story stating he covered the 1908 Derby. Danforth admits to covering 31 Kentucky Derby renewals without a break and calls attention to the fact that in 1916 he scored a slam in his Derby selections for the Lexington Leader, pegging George Smith, the winner; Star Hawk second and the Ward entry third. Incidentally, Danforth was one of the few visiting scribes staying with Swaps from flag* fall to finish last Saturday afternoon.
