Speed Rouser Probable Jersey Stakes Starter See Field Including Dedicate, Saratoga, Simmy and Cup Man By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 11.— Dr. Sidney G. Babbitz Speed Rouser bedded down in his stall here this morning, arriving from a victory in a seven-furlong race preceding last Saturdays eighty - first Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs to be added to the list of sophomores who are eyeing the winners prize of the 0,000 added Jersey Stakes. The Jersey will have its thirteenth renewal here at a distance of nine furlongs on Saturday, with racing secretary M. C. "Ty" Shea this morning estimating a field of "about 12 or 13." Other -aspirants will be converging here from New York and Maryland for the week-end fixture which takes the spotlight for three-year-olds during the gap between last Saturdays Kentucky Derby and the May 28 running of the Preakness at Pimlico. The leading candidates for the Jersey, such as Montpeliers Saratoga, Mrs. Dorothy P. Belz Simmy, Rokeby Stables Cup Man, and Jan Burkes Dedicate, may also shoot for the second jewel of the Triple Crown events, providing they uphold their standing here on Saturday. Simmy is expected to van down from New York shortly. Although he was beaten some 15 lengths behind Nashua and Summer Tan in the Wood Memorial, the son of The Dude displayed burning speed in Florida and equaled the worlds record for six and one -half furlongs in a victory at Gulfstream Park. Saratoga gained a host of admirers in Maryland when he won the Chesapeake in flashy and easy atyle. The son of Blenheim II. finished last in the Florida Derby, but he forced Nashua most of the distance in the Flamingo Stakes at Hialeah and finished second to him by a generous margin over Cup Man and the others of the winters best sophomores. Saratoga was shipped in by Frank Bonsai a week ago and has been training sharply. William Goadby Loews Grandpaw is expected to arrive from New York today and make his final preparations for the Jersey over the local strip. He has been raced sparingly this year with a single victory tallied at Belmont Park. Last year he finished second to Summer Tan in the United States Hotel Stakes and also took down second money in the Champagne and Rem-sen Stakes. Dedicate raised his stock tremendously last Saturday when he won the six-furlong Delaware Valley Steandefc. J Dedicate was returned to New York after his fourth straight triumph of the spring, I and he is expected to be shipped in over-, night for the race. Training activity this morning was con-; fined to the "lesser lights." The most im-! pressive move was turned in by Craigwood . Stables Craigwood. The Djeddah colt, who 1 finished a nose behind Simmy in the lat-j ters six and one-half furlong record run at Gulfstream, was stretched cut to a mile, j He showed his usual impressive speed for |six furlongs, getting that far in 1:12ft, but j he slowed down to 1 : 26 5 for seven f ur-I longs and was tiring rapidly when he completed a mile in 1:41ft. Roslyn Stables Go Lightly went an easy six furlongs in 1:19, and Joseph Gavegna-| nos Henrys Reward, an unlikely starter, j breezed a half-mile in :51V5. Others expected to be in Saturdays line-iup include George D. Wideners Mandil, ] Duntreath Farms Fleet Path, E. Constan-jtin, Jr.s Ambers Folly, Gee M. Cohens I Chuck Thompson, and Barclay Stables Blazing Qount.
