• : Tigers Sell Pitcher to As; Drop Two Others From Squad DETROIT, Mich., May 11 UP.— The Detroit Tigers today sold right hander Ray Herbert to the Kansas City Athletics for an amount in excess of the 0,000 waiver price. Herbert, 25, a native of Detroit who showed great promise with the Tigers by winning four straight games during the first month of the 1951 season before departing for the Army, hadnt seen any action this season. He failed to live up to expectations when he was discharged from the service, win- ning seven games and losing 12 during the past two seasons. General manager Herold Muddy Ruel refused to disclose the sale price but said it was in excess of the waiver price. Ruel also announced infielder Ron Sam-ford , had been dropped from the roster pending the outcome of waivers and veteran outfielder Steve Souchock was re- leased outright to Buffalo of the Interna - tional League.
