Dr. Rees Stands Long Drive to Whip Clynon Takes Eldorado at Fairmount; Daily Double Pays 88.00 FAIRMOUNT PARK. Collins ville. 111., May 11. — Horses more sturdy of foot and having a preference for soft footing had their inning here Tuesday night. Rains earlier in the morning and which continued to mid-afternoon left the course muddy for the eight-race all-sprint racing menu. For the second straight night a pair of outsiders won the Daily Double events and few of the 4,013 racing fans had trouble in dashing to the mutuel wickets to collect their tickets which were good for 88.00. The previous high was Monday night when this form of betting was good for 06.40. The winning Daily Double combination Tuesday night was P. E. Graves Select, ridden by jockey W. T. Stevens and Earl Biehls Aspirant, who had the services of Les Wickel. The feature was the Eldorado at six furlongs and served as the sixth race. A field of nine went postward here, including the J. and G. Hejna entry of Gus Fan and Geneva which served as the second choice, dropping the favoritism to E. J. Vogelsangs Desefolks. The winner was furnished by Mrs. Sam Orr whose Dr. Rees stood a long drive gamely to outfinish Casper and Armstrongs Clynon, the early leader, to get a head decision over the weakening Clynon. Without Kin was third. Dr. Rees, who paid 1.40, was handled by W. T. Stevens for his second success of the night. Bert Gummow shared riding honors with Stevens, holding the reins on Miss Jan in her winning effort in the fourth race and Remodeled who won the eighth race. Uncertain weather and track conditions resulted. in three of the best races in the book of conditions for Thursday failing to fill and racing secretary John J. Klucina had to be content with calling on his. claimers to furnish the sport. The best offering is the five and one-half fu"longs sixth race, titled the Creekside, honoring the nearby breeding farm where some 100 head of local runners are quartered. Making up this dash are Slamming Slam. Quarter Lady, Horse Fly, Wise Balla, Caseys Hope. Miss Crossbow, Down Card and Justa Ray. Three-year-olds are matched in the fifth at six furlongs and there are many well-known sophomores in the race who performed here last season. Scheduled to match strides here are Blossoms Lass, Miss Spadi, a recent arrival from the Chicago area. Ramonson, Easy Sir, Homebred, Till We Meet, What a Guy and Bull McGee. The only distance races are the seventh and eighth heats, the former a mile and a sixteenth and the night -cap at one mile and seventy yards.
