The sixth race, the ,000 Bubbling Over Purse, attracted nine three-year-olds for the one and one-sixteenth mile route, topped by Emerald Isle Hotel Stables Charlies Gem, a good chestnut colt by Royal Gem II. — Ethel Blume and trained by Phil Johnson. Charlies Gem, in his only start at the Cicero track, won in easy fashion over such good sophomores as River Gate, Portage Boy, and Miss Olympia in a sprint seven-furlong affair on May 6. Charlies Gem campaigned in Florida last winter and won a six and one-half furlong race at Gulf-stream Park in March. In another attempt at Gulfstream he finished second. The crack Oklahoma jockey, Bennie Green, who is trailing Ronnie Baldwin by one victory for the jockey leadership at the meeting, will ride Charlies Gem, who has been assigned 120 pounds. Armer and Nails Roman Senator, a winner here on opening day and third behind Golden Admiral and Cosentina one week ago, will be among the strong contenders in the event and shares the top impost with Charlies Gem. Chic Devil Threat Mrs. Harriet. Johnstons Chic Devil, the only other winner at the meeting, also looms as a serious factor for the winning honors. Al Jeddings Deodend, fourth in the race won by Chic Devil, also figures among the contention. Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Coronation Boy, who started on opening day; Willis F. Scotts Smugsy Wugsy, unplaced in two races here; William W. Morrows Restraint, third behind Just Judy and Pussy Cat in a one and one-sixteenth mile affair; and the Charles F. The seventh race, also at one and one-sixteenth miles, called the Klamath for a ,200 purse, will bring together older horses. Harry Starks two-time winner here, No Tricks, tops the field. No Tricks beat Vain Vixen on May 2 in a one and one-sixteenth miles affair, and last Monday defeated Chicle II. and other good routers in a one and one-eighth miles event. The seventh race drew 10 starters, with six on the "also eligible" list. Several of the others entered have won at the meeting. They are Spoiled Brat, Resigned, Alfred Boulder. Magic Motion, Lou Adams, and Kays Children.
