Sophomore Filly Can Make History In Delawares Distaff Big Three STANTON, Del., May 11. — Among the 65 candidates for the Delaware Oaks, initial event of the "Distaff Big Three" — Delaware Parks quarter-million-dollar jackpot for fillies and mares — is a three -year-old filly with an opportunity to make American turf history. This golden chance is presented in the Delaware Handicap, worlds richest race for fillies and mares. The added money of the Delaware Handicap could be a varied amount up to 30,000, dependent upon a filly or mare starting in either or both the Delaware Oaks and "new" New Castle, the other components of the "Distaff Big Three," the record added money purse would be contingent upon a three-year-old filly winning the Delaware Handicap. The one mile and one-quarter Delaware Handicap on July 2 will gross approximately 50,000, due to starting and nomination fees, and could exceed the record 25,000 added money of the Kentucky Derby due to the retroactive nominator-breeder clause. The retroactive bonus is a 0,000 award which goes to the nominators and breeders of the first four finishers of the Delaware Handicap. If a filly or mare earns a share of the Delaware Handicap and also j started in the 1955 Oaks or New Castle, her share of , the ward is doubled. If previously, she has started in both the Oaks and New Castle, the award is trebled.
