"* r- . . ! j S j I ! ! ; THINKING CAP— 1954 Pimlico Futurity winner is a starter at Pimlico today. i Thinking Cap Seeks Old Court Purse Today as Preakness Stakes Qualifier l I , - I , , Christiana Colt Unfortunate* In Last Outing; Royal Briar, , Our Country MainOpponents 5 PIMLICO. Baltimore. Md., May 11.— Thinking Cap, who last fall won the Pimlico Futurity for the Christiana Stable of f Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lunger, heads the field for Thursdays featured mile and one-■ sixteenth Old Court Purse. Opposition for r the Preakness prospect includes Mrs. Ada * L. Rices Royal Briar, Mrs. Royal Firman, Jr.s Manormouse, Ella K. Brysons Admiral Vee, Jay Cee Farms Our Country and j Eugene Constantin, Jrs Bonne Fete. With his sights trained on the 00,000 added Preakness on Saturday, May 28, the * Rosemont — Camargo three-year-old will be striving for his initial victory in three ; starts this year. It must be added, however, - that he was far from a disappointment - in his two previous outings. After f sprinting in his seasonal bow, Thinking Cap came back in the Chesapeake Stakes . and was just commencing his run in early j stretch when severely blocked and eliminated • when unable to drive through on 1 the weary Nances Lad. He has since trained splendidly for Henry Clark and certainly will not lack conditioning tomorrow. . He will be ridden by Robert J. Martin, - just as he will in the Preakness and • other impending fixtures. Royal Briar has raced well while sprinting in Maryland this spring but his value , at a mile and a sixteenth is questionable. . In his last appearance. Royal Briar was I a Laurel winner over Small Coffee and others with six furlongs in l:124/£. Our Country favors the distance of the * Old Court, as evidenced by his recent second behind Jerlou in 1:44%. He was . soundly beaten, however, being four ! lengths behind the winner and hardly can be placed in a class with Thinking Cap. Admiral Vee also has fared well in sprint events, finishing about a half dozen lengths in back of Duntreath Farms well-regarded , Fleet Path in a recent Laurel engagement. The time of that one was , l:104/5. with the winner being far in front . of the others. Manormouse and Bonne Fete come from a maiden race in which Fraser Valley was i disqualified after beating Hibernia and others. Manormouse, while finishing third, was beaten five and one-half lengths, with Bonne Fete being a similar distance in back of Manormouse. Another interesting race on Thursdays card is the five and one -half furlong Crawfish Purse, which will be run as the fifth event. In this sprint are Royal Indian. Ellens Spy. Gay Warbler, Canary Oaks, Reterita, Sussie Belle and Betty Barr, with the first two coupled as the Mrs Samuel M. Pistorio-Almoy Stable entry
