GAINSBORO GIRL was allowed to maintain a swift and even pace and continued resolutely under punishment in the final stages to hold the opposition clear. ROCK COTTAGE was taken back and reserved off the pace for five furlongs, came around horses for the dr-.l.* closed a gap while finishing with a rush. OPERA LIGHT, steadied when unable to head the wi*-*" acing en the outside into the first turn, appeared dangerous when roused on the final turn, but j*** ..teered to the rail and hung. PUNKIN VINE stumbled badly at the break and was steadied* while v*««*nng,-saved ground and lacked a closing rally. TOY FOX easily settled into a clear lead, was rated along setting the pace and, after widening on the field, was being eased up through the last forty yards. JERRYS BEST could not match speed with the top pair early, but continued evenly in the drive and outfinished VALS KID. The latter dropped back from a good beginning on the first turn, came out slightly for the drive and rallied mildly when punished. FAITHFUL RING raced well for six furlongs and weakened. FUGITIVE was not a factor. DOVER DAM showed nothing. BRASSFIELD was under restraint from the beginning when his rider lost both irons leaving the gate, But he raced strongly outside horses for a half-mile before the rider was able to take him back of the field.
