, , Serdar Requests 63,000 Racing Board Appropriation SPRINGFIELD, HI., May 11.— Paul Serdar, chairman of the Illinois Racing Board, appeared before the House Appropriations committee here yesterday and asked the group to recommend an appropiation of 63,000, an increase of 8,000 over the last grant, for the Boards activities. The increase is to be used, Serdar told the committee, to employ a score of crack investigators to reduce the stimulation evil to the very possible minimum and to drive known "undesirables" out of every aspect of racing. Serdar said the proposed investigative agents were needed because several of the tracks in the state do not belong to the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of the United States and thus do not have the services of the TRAs affiliate, the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau. These tracks are Sportsmans Park, Hawthorne, Fairmount Park and Cahokia Downs. The committee voiced unanimous approval of Serdars request.
