LETDOWN was steadied close to the pace, opened a clear lead when ready and continued well while trying to drift out under intermittent punishment in the stretch. HI-ROCK, never far back, made a mild bid in the upper stretch, but had to be taken out trying to lug in, then was allowed to drift to the inside for the final run. DIXIE PRINCE made up ground racing outside of horses on the final turn and finished strongly. WHIFFS rallied but mildly. LARAN was taken in hand racing between horses on the stretch turn. BUT FIRST raced on the outside going in company with ITOBE from the start and outgamed that rival under punishment in the final stages. ITOBE willingly raced into a short lead on the turn, but coiild not shake off the winner and tired slightly. SWEENEY offered no resistance when challenged by the top pair and steadily dropped back through the stretch. ROMAN FAN raced greenly on the turn and tired. GAILS BOY raced wide around horses on the turn. LUCIUS BEEBE was taken back attempting to bear out at the far turn and raced wide into the stretch. BROWN POPPY saved ground after a sluggish start. HI-SAG began fastest, was . roused -to meet the. challenge from SMOOTH STRIDE at the three-furlong marker, but saved ground and drew clear while in hand on the stretch turn and cleverly held BEAU FOND safe. The latter, intermittently urged after a slow start, found ample room between horses for the drive and finished gamely. SMOOTH STRIDE rushed to HI-SAG at the far turn, but dropped back racing wide into the stretch and continued to bear out in the drive. FLOTILLA saved ground and finished evenly. WARMED OVER began alertly and was confidently steadied within easy striking distance, wilingly responded in the stretch drive and raced through on the inside to draw clear. HANWAR was lightly urged gradually wearing down WHITE LIGHT racing on the outside, briefly gained the lead in the last eighth, but was no match for the winner. WHITE LIGHT was in hand showing high speed for a half mile, but weakened in the stretch and did not respond when punished. ONE THROW gave an even effort. ROMAN FAIR raced wide outside horses. DARK FACTOR lacked speed from the gate. DAIRCHEE was eased back from close quarters at the far turn. IMPROMPTU shook off contention and rapidly opened a long lead after the initial five-sixteenths, raced along easily into the stretch, then bore out badly in the final sixteenth and was energetically handled to hold OUR PRINCE safe while finishing in the middle of the track. OUR PRINCE began slowly, circled horses making up ground on the turn and was guided outside the winner while closing fast at the end. BLUE VET dropped back while being forced wide by JETS WAR DATE on the turn, dropped to the inside when clear of that interference entering the stretch and evenly held the others safe. DARK PETER was steadied along for three furlongs, moved ouside of I GEEGEE when put under, steady pressure on the turn and continued willingly under smoothly strong handling in the stretch to be gradually drawing away from that rival. I- GEEGEE, steadied into best stride, raced between horses into closer contention entering the far turn, closed resolutely in company with DARK PETER through the last three-eighths, but was not good enough. BOBBY BROCATO lacked speed and was well back to midway the turn, then was gradually steered to the outside while closing with a rush through the stretch. DUC DE FER, steadied when threatened by BUSHERS BEAM at the half mile marker, rapidly raced around horses into command on the turn and came to the .inside, then weakened under punishment. BLACK METAL was a keen contender, raced a trifle wide into the stretch and held on well. BLESSBULL began fastest, could not stay with the pace, but held on fairly well saving ground in the stretch. MASTER ACE was hard pressed showing speed and faltered. BUSHERS BEAM attempted to bear out from the beginning and had to be taken back. FIRST alertly settled into closest pursuit of SENGA, gradually wore down that rival in the backstretch and opened a long lead on the turn, then was punished in the earl/ stretch, but won as if much the best. SENGA outbroke the field, offered no resistance to the winner, but held on well enough to last over the others. NIGHT BAKER, unhurried for a half-mile, closed well thereafter and outfinished BOY DAMOUR. The latter was urged forwardly at the far turn, raced slightly wide and did not threaten the leaders.
