Her major contention could come from Lajun, the Kentucky Oaks winner, and Myrtles Jet, who has been lightly campaigned this term. This is the last year that the Oaks will be offered as an early-closing event and the race attracted 270 nominees when closed on May 1, 1954. After the second payment on October 1, 147 members of the group remained eligible, while 65 fillies were eligible following the April 15 payment. For the 1956 running of the Oaks, nominations will close May 1, along nvith all other stakes events offered at this track. Having operated in conflict with Maryland and New Jersey during the Memorial Day week end, as well as having experienced either rain or the threat of it, during the early portion of its meeting, attendance and wagering here to date show a slight decrease. Even though competing against Monmouth Park for the balance of the meeting, both departments should take a turn for the better during the coming weeks, especially with the attractive stakes to be offered. As is the case at Delaware Park on week days, Mondays features honor outstanding race mares of past seasons, Nellie Morse and Two Lea. In the latter event are Policeman Day, Koko Dozo, Last Fox, Chicanery, Taratara, Mardan, Two Lumps and Ala-pocas. The Nellie Morse matches Hand Reward, Jolt, Tribune, Beautiful Vine, Sleep Late, Hebrides and Tonys Chance.
