Horsemen Review XBase Problem ~ Dubassoff, White Initiate Discussion as Which Course Best for Paucity of Horses DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 11. — The paucity of brush steeplechase horses, which has been growing with the years, has caused horsemen to carefully review the race opportunities afforded them here, where three 0,000 features are offered annually, in addition to the Spring Maiden. Steeplechase. A discussion as to whether it was best to run the rich Delaware Park features over the outside slake course, or the smaller inside course, was initiated by Oleg Dubassoff and Arthur White, who feel that it would facilitate training, if horsemen could know now, rather than later, for which course they were pointing. Since Delaware Park is running the 0,000 features as "overnights," and has offered the horsemen their choice of-run-Inirig over either course, Dubasoff and White broadened the talks to include a total of 17 well-known horsemen, who voted their preferences June 3. The preference was for the small course. The horsemen again were canvassed June 6. The preference still was for the small course. Meeting in New York Wednesday To further help the steeplechasing folk, William DuPont, Jr., went to New York yesterday for a meeting with the leading steeplechasing figures. From this meeting have come two decisions: 1. That the 0,000 Georgetown and 0,000 Indian River steeplechases will be run over the smaller inside course, because there are not available, enough brush horses of stakes caliber to warrant running over the outside course. 2. Over the outside stake course, there will be offered two overnights of modest purse value. Inherent in the discussions was the necessity of a suitable field, attractive to the public, and worthy of steeplechasing, going to the post. As previously announced, these 0,000 features will be run as "overnights," and if they fail to fill, they will be cancelled. Thereafter, a substitute steeplecl-ase for a smaller purse will be offered, designed in the judgment of the racing department, to attract the best field of horses available. If such substitute steeplechase fails to fill, it will be cancelled and a flat race substituted. Participating in either the voting or discussions at one time or another were the following well-known horsemen: C. E. Adams, G. H. Bostwick, W. B. Cocks, C. V. B. Cushman, J. V. H. Davis, M. H. Dixon, M. H. Dixon, Jr., O. T. Dubasoff, Dennis Murphy, Emmett Roberts, J. T. Skinner, Dr M. Smithwick, M. G.- Walsh, Sidney Watters, Jr., Eugene Weymouth, Arthur White and R. G. Woolf e.
