Playroom Carries Whitney Silks to English Victory Owner on Hand to See Thirsk Centenery Handicap Triumph Special to Daily Racing Form THIRSK, Yorkshire, England, June 11 Reuters .—John Hay Whitney, owner with his sister, Mrs. Charles Shipman Pay-son, of Greentree Stable, attended the races at the Thirsk race track today and saw his white, black and salmon pink silks carried successfully by the three-year-old Playroom in the ,480 Thirsk Centenary Handicap over 12 furlongs. Playroom, who is by Borealis, earned the verdict by a short head in a photo finish with Bright Lights. Thirteen ran. Playrooms time was 2:34. The Centenary Cup, which was awarded to mark 100 years of racing at Thirsk, was presented to Whitney after the. race. Jockey Bill Elliott received a silver mounted inscribed whip and the stable lad, Roy Pettitt received a replica of the cup. Gerry Balding who trains Whitneys runners at Weyhill, Hampshire, said Playroom will have another race next month after which it will be decided whether the colt fulfills his engagement in the Don-caster St. Leger. Whitney had four other runners in todays races but Playroom was his only winner.
