Chicagoan to CKmax Balmoral Meet Sophomores Await 0,000 Feature Honeys Alibi, Nances Lad, Traffic Judge, Ballydonnel And Summer Solstice Named WASHINGTON, PARK, Homewood, 111., June 11. — Several of the nations best three-year-olds get the spotlight in Chicago this week as the Balmoral Jockey Club climaxes its inaugural season at Washington Park next Saturday with the first running of the 0,000 added Chicagoan at one mile. The Chicagoan, closing-day headliner, has lured top-level sophomores from every sector of the nation, including Nances Lad, recent winner of the Peter Pan; Honeys Alibi, a California challenger; Traffic Judge, winner of the Withers; -a Chicago development, Make Ready, and two Irish imports, Summer Solstice and Ballydonnel. As a prelude to the running of the Chicagoan, Balmoral also is presenting a Wednesday feature, the 0,000 Domino Handicap for three-year-olds and up. When Balmoral closes its 1955 season, the coordinated Spring-Summer Chicago racing swings into high gear, Monday, June 20, with the opening of Arlington Parks 36-day session. Executive Director Benjamin F. Lindheimer of Arlington-Washington revealed that over 200 new horses, many of them top stakes contenders from prominent stables, will join the Arlington thoroughbred colony and go on to the Washington Park meeting, August 1 through Labor Day. Meanwhile, Balmoral racing picks up speed withthe. running of the Domino and The Chicagoan. Scent in Domino w euuesuay s uomino, nameu in nonor oj. the great sprinter of the 19th century, promises to bring together one of the fleetest fields seen in action at the Homewood course. Topping the list of possible starters is Monaghan Farms Companys Scent, winner of the La Salle Handicap, Balmorals open-day feature, and third in the Citation Handicap behind Sea O Erin and Two Fisted. Hasty House Farm will be represented by Summer Solstice, Irish-bred speedster who recently won his American racing debut here in fine fashion. The Reuben-owned establishment also has named Torch of War, winner of the Churchill Downs handicap, and the reliable Platan. Marvin Affeld again will send postward his duo of Spur On and Two Fisted. Two Fisted, besides his Fort Lauderdale Handicap victory over St. Vincent, was a good second behind Sea O Erin in the Citation Handicap. Spur Ons best effort of the Balmoral-at-Washington Park meeting was a close-up third in the La Salle. Reverie Knoll Farms Smoke Screen, one of the Citation Handicap disappointments, will be among the Domino starters, as will Sam Tufanos Wise Margin, who also failed in the Citation mile test. Other handicap stars on. the Washington Park grounds nominated for the Domino sprint are Harold G. Bockmans Happy Go Lucky, Mrs. Herbert Herffs Smackover, Inverwood Farms Streaking, second in the Continental Turf Handicap; Merle Mitchells Cosentina, third in the Honeymoon Stakes; Walmac Farms Vagabond King, and Louis Schlossers Bergeruk. Racing Secretary Frederick G. "Pat" Farrell see a highly competitive field for The Chicagoan, Chicagos first major test for three-year-olds. Likely choice for The Chicagoan will be Hillin A. Dabsons Nances Lad, an Eastern invader who shows stake triumphs in the Hutcheson, and Fountain of Youth Handi- caps, the Swift Stakes and the Peter Pan Handicap at Belmont. In the Swift, Nances Lad dealt the then undefeated Boston Doge his lone setback. The Slide Rule— Nances Ace colt also finished second behind Traffic Judge in the Withers at Belmont. Another definite starter is W. L. Ranch Companys Honeys Alibi who checked irr last week. Among the colts three wins this year was in impressive triumph in the Preakness Prep. Honeys, Alibi ran sixth in The Preakness.
