ThistleDowns Imp Stakes Has 24 Distaff Nominees Shy Peg, Peu-a-Peu and Our Only One on Roster THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 11. — Racing secretary Fred Burton today released the names of 24 fillies and mares who have been nominated for the Imp Stakes to be run at this track on Saturday June 18. The Imp, named in honor of Ohios greatest native thoroughbred Imp was recently voted one of the .10 best mares of tall time in the recent Delaware Park poll is at six furlongs for a purse of ,000 added and an expected gross of approximately ,000. This will be the third running of the Imp which was won in 1954 by Wolf Gal, representing Clevelander M. R. "Buddy" Hamar. Wolf Gal is again one of the better liked nominess this year. The first running of the Imp was contested in the fall of 1953 with victory going to G. Y. Bookers Mad Hare who established a still existing track-record for one mile, the distance of the stakes at that time.
