* VanBerg to Saddle Entry at Detroit Vantage, Endon to Flaunt His Silks in Six-Furlong Allowance Offering Monday DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, MictC June 11.— Marion H. Vanberg, will hold an unusually strong hand for major honors in the Gratiot Junior Saddle Club Purse here Monday afternoon. The Nebraska turfman named the stakes winning Vantage and Endon for the one mile condition race, which will match a. half dozen top flight performers. Endon, a four-year-old gelded son of Challedon and Hi Cris, turned in a sharp performance here last Friday afternoon when he defeated his stablemate, Set Shot, and several others in the Plymouth High "12" Purse. Finishing determinedly in the six furlongs overnight event, Endon was not under strong pressure to achieve his success in 1:11% on a track* termed no better than good. The Plymouth High "12" triumph marked Endons initial 1955 victory but it must be remembered that the handsome bay gelding was good enough last year to post a "five-five-six" record for 9,140 in purses. A versatile campaigner on any type footing, Endon probably will be the main Vanberg hope in the Monday headliner. Under the allowances of the headliner, Endon will shoulder a bulky 122 pounds burden and he probably will have the saddle services of Lois Cook, leading rider at the current meeting. Vantage to Have Following Vantage, a six-year-old Okapi gelding, finished a fairly close fifth in the F. M. Alger Memorial Handicap the first time he appeared under silks this season. Although his race was far and away from being one of his best, Vantage certainly cannot be counted out of the Monday dash. During his 1954 racing, the Vanberg star annexed the Charles W. Bidwell Memorial Handicap, the Chicago Handicap, and Hazel Parks Labor Day Handicap, picking up earnings of more than 7,000, which figure brought his two-year total to well over 00,000. Vantage will be ridden by apprentice Johnny Sellers. The gelding is favorably weighted at 115 pounds, "with the five pounds allowance, and he is expected to give a top performance Monday. Others entered are T. Alie Grissoms My Fault, 119; Mrs. George C. Whites Speed OLight, 105; M. Adelharts Cow Town, 110, and Almar Stables Easy Paddy, pegged at 119 pounds. The apprentice allowance is claimed for Speed OLight, a good second to the Vanberg stables Knights Reward in the recently-decided one mile Mechanical Day Purse. Jockey Robert Lee Baird will handle My Fault in the Monday feature, Little Bobby Robbin drew the mount on Speed OLight, and Sherman Armstrong is engaged for Cow Town.
