Mister Black Late Scratch I WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, III., June 11.— Mister Black, favorite s for the 0,000 added Balmoral Handicap, was withdrawn from the race by trainer Harry Trotsek less than one hour before post time today. The stewards would advance no reason for the sudden "scratching" of the horse other than to quote the rule, "A horse in a stake may be withdrawn up to 45 minutes before post time." As a a result, Johnny Adams, slated to ride Mister Black, was switched to Sea O Erin, the other Hasty House Farm runner, and Steve Brooks, who was to have ridden Sea O Erin, was later substituted for Arnold Kirkland on Mark-Ye-Well. Mister Black suffered a leer injury here over a week ago, but worked on the turf since that time and apparently was sound after having: been pulled up. It later developed that Mister Black was withdrawn on the advice of the stable veterinarian. Mister Blacks recent injury failed to heal in a satisfactory manner, it was stated.
