Studies Some Phases of U. S. Racing Giancarlo Lanzani, of Milan, Italy, secretary of the Italian Horse Owners Association, is a visitor and expects to remain for a couple of weeks. Is to report back to Italian owners on the feasibility of shipping Italian-bred horses for summer competition. Is also studying stabling facilities, filming of races, etc. Aside from being an- enthusiastic horseman, Lanzani is also_ in the fur business. He is at least one furrier who is not turning out Davy Crockett hats. . .Larry Gilligan, the young apprentice who has been riding well here, departed for Detroit Friday night and accepted mounts there Saturday. Expects to be back Monday. . .Jockey John Heckmann returned from New Orleans where he took his Army physical. He will ride Tuosix in Wednesdays Domino Handicap ... Jockey Bobby Ussery returned to Boston following the running of the Balmoral Turf Handicap. Joe and Otis Privette, thoroughbred breeders of Memphis, Tenn., were among the week-end visitors. Have three horses here in charge of Wilbur Borton. . . . James S. Jones, the Tomlinson trainer, returned from Norfolk, Va„ where he witnessed the graduation exercises for his son arid daughter. . .Michael F. Mulkerrin, a youngster under contract to Nick Moran, accepted his first mount at Washington Park and the second of his career when he "rode here Saturday. . .Jockey Eric Guerin will come in from New York next week end to ride Clifford Mooers three-year-old Traffic Judge in the, Chicagoan . .The four-year-old Due de Fer, Who won the Myrtlewood Handicap at Arlington Park last season, will check in from Monmouth Park Monday to fill his engagement in Wednesdays Domino. Will be accompanied by his trainer, E. S. Brumfield and the latters jockey son, Donald Brumfield, who will ride the colt.
