Aqueduct Inaugurates 24-Day Meet ► — ■ ::£x-:£::::£ s CYRUS of the Queens County Jockey Club to whose Aqueduct track the New York racing j scene shifts on Monday. Field of Thirteen In Queens County Joe Jones, Southarlington, Fabulist, First Aid Among Starters at Mile, Sixteenth AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 11.— The Queens. County Jockey Club opens its 24-day summer meeting here at Aqueduct on Monday with 15 stakes on the agenda, including four to be contested over obstacles. The session at this course, which may or may not become the site of the "dream track" of the Greater New York Association, opens with the 5,000 added Queens County Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth on Monday, while the highlights of the impending meeting are the 0,000 Dwyer Stakes for three-year-olds at. a mile and a j quarter on July 2, the 0,000 Carter, Handicap at seven furlongs on July 4, a* Monday, and the 0,000 Brooklyn Handicap at a mile a quarter on. closing day, June 9. Nashua is eligible to carry the Belair Stud silks in the Dwyer, following in the footprints of Gallant Fox, Faireno, Omaha, Johnstown and Shackleton, who won previous editions of the fixture under- the white banner with the red dots. Other eligibles include Jabneh, Saratoga, Flying Fury, Traffic Judge, Westward Ho and Retamero. Last years Dwyer winner, King Ranchs High Gun, is expected to go postward in the Carter, rather than the Brooklyn, which is too close to his engagement in the King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Ascot on July 16. William Helis, Jr.s Helioscope, who narrowly beat High Gun while receiving five pounds in the Suburban, has been announced as a Carter probable and a return encounter between these sons of Heliopolis promises to be one of the more engrossing races of the year. Handicap Stars in Brooklyn Helioscope, is also eligible to the Brooklyn, along with such good handicap horses as Social Outcast, Straight J?ace, Maharajah, Joe Jones, Subahdar, Jet Action arid Artismo. In recent years, the Brooklyn has been won by such memorable horses as Whirlaway, Devil Diver, Stymie, Gallorette, Assault, Conniver, My Request, Crafty Admiral, Tom Fool and, last year, Invigorator. There are also three stakes for Juveniles during the Aqueduct span, the Tremont, June 22; Astoria for fillies, June 29, and Great American on July 6. Lily-Ann Stables Getthere Jack, who finished in the nearest possible thing to a dead heat with the unbeaten Pollys Jet in the Juvenile at Belmont Park before bolting in a stake at Suffolk Downs, appears to have the Tremont and Great American at his mercy, as he has been training better than ever and appears much more amenable with blinkers. The Queens County has attracted a field of 13, headed by Ethel D. Jacobs Joe Jones, 118, and Paper Tiger, 113 pounds. If all 13 start, the handicap will gross 0,200 and net the Avinner 1,150. McCreary Named for Two Horses Conn McCreary has been named for both Joe Jones and Paper Tiger. JoeMones comes from a dull race in the Camden Handicap at Garden State, in which he finished sixth, immediately behind Mrs. Edward Laskers Lychnusf who gets in here with 109 pounds and Pete Anderson and came back to win an overnight event at Belmont Park at the Queens County distance. Before the Camden, Joe Jones finished third to High Gun and Artismo in the Metropolitan Mile, a nose before Brookmeade Stables First Aid, who was disqualified from fourth place for bearing out at the head of the stretch. First Aid has 114 pounds to carry Monday and switches from Augustine Catalano to Hedley Woodhouse. The Brookmeade horse will have considerable support in the wagering, while the Jacobs entry is expected to be favored. Paper Tiger beat three of the Queens County field at a flat mile at Belmont on June 4, after a poor effort in the Suburban. The Stymie four-year-old beat Woodley Lane Farms Red Hannigan, 114, by a Continued on Page Fifty-Two r Thirteen in Queens County As Aqueduct Meeting Opens Continued from Page Three length and a half, with Wheatley Stables Full Flight, 111, and Charfran Stables Brown Booter, 107, finishing sixth and seventh. The latter had speed in that race, but tired as though short. Paul Bailey will ride Red Hannigan, Jess Higley will be on Full Flight, .while Sidney Cole, an Aqueduct specialist, will be astride Brown Booter. High Tide Stables Fabulist, 111, and J. L. Glark n.s Southarlington, 114, are expected to vie for the lead in the Queens County, closely pressed by First Aid, and in the event of a sloppy track all three may be hard to catch. Fabulist has not started since he scored easily at a mile and a sixteenth at Belmont on May 3, being one of the very few horses to win on the inside rail. He will be ridden by Ted Atkinson. Southarlington, who will have the services of Bill Boland, won his last three, the most recent being at the direct expense of Fly Wheel in the Brandywine Handicap at Delaware Park. The son of Errard may be formidable in his present form. The Queens County field is completed by Killian Farms Resilient, who carries 107 and has been racing well at Delaware Park; D. J. Schneiders Elixir, 106; Joe W. Browns Mel Leavitt, 102, and E. M. OBriens Gaidar, also 102 pounds. The latter sometimes comes up with a "big" race when it is least expected.
