Colonel Fru Successful In ThistleDown Offering Whips Mr. Dink by Two to Giye P. A. Ward Third Tally on Card By J. R. BATTY THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 11.— Dorchester Farms stables Colonel Fru carried jockey Paul A. Ward to his third saddle triumph of the afternoon when emerging a driving victor in the sixth race here today. Ward, 21 years old and from Seymour, Ind., piloted Harold L., an Ohio Derby candidate to a nine-length tally in the fifth race and scored with Harlan Town in the third race. Colonel Fru, owned by Jack Price of Cleveland, O., reached the end of one and one-sixteenth miles with a pair of lengths to spare over Mr. Dink, owned by Bryan H. Wise. Third among the half dozen who performed before a crowd of 11,652, was Saggy Farms Oreo. Mr. Dink was favored in the wagering and toted top weight of 116 pounds in this overnight handicap. Colonel Fru took down top share of the ,000 while shouldering 111 pounds. A four-year-old gelded son of Smolensko — Whimsical Lady, the winner negotiated the distance over a muddy strip in 1:50. Apprentice Jean Trochet donned silks in the first race for the first time at the meeting and arrived first at the wire with Roberta Win, an outsider among nine who competed at six furlongs. To open next weeks six days of sport, the management has posted an allowance sprint for fillies and mares to head the program. Scheduled as the sixth race and named the Belvedere, the main attraction will be decided at five and a half furlongs and for a purse of ,200. Only six members of the fair sex accepted the conditions drafted but an interesting contest should result. The field is comprised of Remind Me, Billie-Anne, Luciete, Solar System, Nordcan and Lot-O-Bim. Remind Me and Billie-Anne are winners at the current session, while -Solar System collected a place award and Nordcan finished third in her lone try. Remind Me, owned by W. M. Walker, tallied by a length over Degree, going six furlongs over a "good" strip in 1:13. Billie-Anne registered an upset victory when nosing out Elkchester last Tuesday. Wolf Gal upset Solar System in a handicap a week ago when the latter was a disappointing odds-on choice. Wednesdays card will be headed by the Northern Ohio Series No. 3 Handicap, a route test of one and three sixteenths miles and supporting this is a handicap sprint. The Imp Handicap, with ,000 added, is scheduled for Saturday. E. A. Bischoffs Harlan Town captured the third race, a dash of five and a half furlongs for two-year-olds which had never won two races. Harlan Town remains undefeated, having earned a purse over the local strip in his only other start. Todays victory was chalked up by two lengths at the direct expense of Running Wolf with Play Top a distant third. Harlan Town was favored and paid .40 after toting jockey Paul A. Ward oyer the distance in 1:08%.
