Reflections By Nelson Dunstan New York Racing Scene Shifts to Aqueduct High Gun Faces Tough Task at Royal Ascot Fillies, Mares May Have Come Into Their Own NEW YORK, N. Y., June 11. — July is fast approaching, always one of the busiest months of thoroughbred racing. Monmouth opened Saturday, Aqueduct gets under way Monday ana Arlington Park in Chicago takes over from Balmoral one week later. Important races for all divisions are scheduled at tracks throughout the country. With the Triple Crown events now in the record books, the English invasion of High Gun for the King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Ascot on July 16 will center much attention on the older horses. New York fans will not forget the Suburban for many a day ana tnere win be many rich opportunities for the older division next month. On July 16, the 00,000 Hollywood Gold Cup will be run in California and on July 23 the 5,000 Monmouth Handicap ds scheduled. Then on July 30, "the 00,000 Arlington Handicap will be run in Chicago. There will also be many races of lesser value. Helioscope, who defeated High Gun by a head in the Suburban, is eligible for some of these events and may return to the racing wars, in the 0,000 Brooklyn Handicap at Aqueduct on July 9. Represents U. S.vin Englands Richest Race King Ranch is picking no easy spot for High Gun at Ascot and the -stable is entitled to a world of credit for sending this horse to the other side for a race in which England, France and Italy will be represented. Giving Helioscope five pounds in the Suburban, High Gun ran one of the best races in the long history of that event and he is a worthy representative of the American breed in what is now Englands richest race. It is understood he will be returned to this country immediately after the Ascot stake and, of course, there . are many races awaiting him from August right through to the close of the Eastern season. He will probably be on the other side when the Brooklyn Handicap is run but it is a foregone conclusion that all American fans will be listening for the result of the Ascot race which is at a mile and a half. He will meet some of the best horses in Europe, including Ba-nassa, who was second to C. V. Whitneys Fisherman in the Washington, D. C, International at Laurel last fall. The day is long past when fillies were a drug on the yearling market and the racing of June and July clearly proves that. At Aqueduct on June 20, the 5,-000 Distaff Handicap will be run and two days before that Monmouth Park has the 0,000 Regret Handicap. Delaware Park now specializes in events for fillies and mares and its "Distaff Big Three" will start with the 5,000 Oaks on June 18, followed by the 5,000 "new" New Castle on June 25 and then climactic 10,000 Delaware Handicap, the worlds richest race, for members of the weaker sex, on July 2. There is scarcely a filly or mare in training in the East who was not named for this race and judging by the results of the Top Flight, in which the Foxcatcher Farms Parlo established a new track mark, she will be a favorite for the Delaware race. The Top Flight was a big disappointment for the followers of the Wheatley Stables High Voltage, who was voted the two-year-old champion filly a year ago. She had no excuse that we could see but her effort was far below her form in the Acorn, Black-Eyed - Susan and Coaching Club American Oaks. She will get her chances in the Delaware Oaks, "new" New Castle and Delaware Handicap. Important Juvenile Test Begins in July While August is the month when two-year-old colts reach their peak in the Saratoga Special, Hopeful, Washington Park Futurity and other events, there are some opportunities for these youngsters in July, especially the Tremont for colts and geldings to be run on June 22, the Arlington Futurity, and then the Great American, also at Aqueduct, on July 6. To date, Pollys Jet, a son of Polynesian, is by far the best colt shown, but it remains to be seen whether he can go on to greater fame. There are many colts who have not yet started, and a coughing epidemic on Long Island has retarded quite a number. The same can be said for two-year-old fillies who will have the 0,000 Arlington Lassie in Chicago as a forerunner to the Princess Pat. Then, of course, there is the Spinaway, which will be contested at Saratoga on August 27. It is still much too early to judge the juvenile colts and fillies as August may bring an entirely different picture than is now the case. In recent years, Native Dancer, Turn-to and Royal Coinage distinguished themselves in the sporting Saratoga Special. It was in this Hopeful that Native Dancer, Artismo and Nashua gave true indication of their class. A year ago, Nashua scored over Summer Tan in the Hopeful and came back to Long Island to win the Futurity, a race which played a telling part in his being voted the two-year-old champion. Trim Destiny, Dogoon to Washington Park DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 11. — G. R. Whites homebred colt, Trim Destiny, and Theodore D. Buhls Dogoon, good stakes winners, will leave for Washington Park over the week end. Trim Destiny and Dogoon are shipping to the Homewood course to fill engagements in Balmorals 0,000 Chi-cagoan Stakes, a one mile event ior three-year-olds, scheduled for decision Saturday, June 18. „ . ,
