► Jones Rates Gen. Duke As Best Three-Year-Old Adds That Preakness Status Of Calumet Ace Is Indefinite NEW YORK. N. Y., May 11.— Calumet trainer Jimmie Jones, suppering at Toots Shors with a band of New York turf writers last night, said in response to queries that he considered Gen. Duke the best three-year-old in the country. Jones volunteered the following ratings: 1. Gen. Duke; 2. Bold Ruler: 3. Iron Liege: 4. Gallant Man; 5. Round Table; 6. Barbizon. Jones said that he did not think that Gen. Duke would be ready in time for the Preaknes but that there was nothing definite about the situation. He revealed that the bar shoe on the Bull Lea colts left front foot had been changed since his arrival at Baltimore from Louisville. Jones added that he might blow Gen. Duke out on Tuesday and that if he came back from this move in good order, a reconsideration of his position might be in order. Jones said that he would have to see Bold Ruler run two bad cases in a row before he would dismiss the Wheatley colt lightly. He told newsmen, however, that his own chances for a win in the Preakness were not hurt by Pimlico s track, which is a bit deeper than that at Louisville. Jones emphasized that Iron Liege is "a superior mud horse."
